i just recently got ahold of a base 92 talon 5 speed with the 6 bolt engine i know a lil bit about it but im still new to the dsm game. Does anybody have any ideas on what mods i should do first? any and all help is appreciated

I'm sure the first correct answer that EVERYONE on this board will give you is: MAINTENANCE. Check your belts, if you don't know how long it's been since your timing belt has been changed, change it. Check/change all of your fluids, inspect your brakes, and make sure the general mechanical condition of the car is 100%. Good luck, and welcome! :)

i know that its had new plugs wires and oem replacement air filter by the previous owner fluidsbut ill look into changein out all belts and fluids:)

I own a 93 nt talon, loving it too. I lucked out and the previous owner had a jdm 6 bolt 4g63 hand picked from the jdm scrap yard in toronto. It already had 272/272 profile cams in it so after doing as BigIrish recommended(good idea with any used vehicle), I put a custom cold air kit on it and a 4-2-1 OBX r header on it. Still only ran a 16.9, first time at the track with it too. Everyone kept telling me it was gonna do better than that so I think i have sensors outta adjustment or something

Welcome and First things are first..

what are you looking for as in HP goals and hows the money budget..

like i said depending on the money and goals:
best first mods would be basic bolt ons (3" exhaust, hard intake etc).
turbo upgrade (evo III 16g) fuel mods along with it ( walbro 255 lph hp)

thats for stock internals and power..

if money aint a thang LOL

now you can add forged internals: pistons, rods, multi-layer headgasket , valves, springs, ported head etc to add lots of boost along with more fuel mods (most important) injectors and any stand alone or piggy back systems (dsmlink , safc etc)

i know theres alot more to cover, others can add if they want to..

again its all about budget and what goals you are trying to reach..

use the search field to look for your answers because almost everything has been covered (multiple times) jus wanted to help you a little

GOODLUCK!

EDIT*** sorry i thought it was a 1g turbo

If you got the base model. I believe that is the 1.8L yeah? Replace the timing belt and the weld the hood shut LOL. You got your self a rare and nearly indestructable beasty.

moneys a lil tight but i eventually want it to be runnin around 10's im not lookin to do it all in a year but eventually itll happen. another question tho...would an intake be better or a drop in k&n? n wut would i need for a complete turbo set up?

no i have the 2.0 n/a

Ah you have a N/A 4g63.

First things first make sure you do your maintenance.

Then follow the upgrade paths.

Tech Guide: 1G 4G63t Upgrades: Stage 0 Power - DSMtuners
Tech Guide: 1G 4G63t Upgrades: Stage 1 Power - DSMtuners

If you can begin to piece together a turbo setup.
14b or 16g turbo.
2g Turbo Manifold
Oil Feed and Dump Lines
Coolant Feed Line and Return Lines
Blow off Valve
Intercooler
Intercooler Piping.
02 Housing.
Turbo Downpipe
Turbo ECU

You can find a lot of the oem stuff pretty cheap. Figure out what you want, then research what you need to get there. I have been on the forums for about a year or so now. I had a 1g turbo AWD before that and learned a lot of stuff the hard way.

Along with what he is mentioning here, it would be best for you to try and get a stock type set up before you go for power. That way you can solve any issues that pop up running stock instead of messing expensive parts early on.

Only other thing is there is a slight difference between the 4g63 Turbo and Non Turbo blocks. The turbos have oil squirters for the undersides of the pistons.

Yeah I was meaning he should try and get OEM parts off the Classifieds And/Or junkyards.

Also you might want some nice 450 cc injectors. Or other oem turbo injectors.

Also, the N/T pistons have thinner ring lands. But unless your wanting to put down serious boost you can use the n/t pistons.

Your build is gonna change based on how much boost/horsepower you want.

So wut turbo parts could i take off I 2g for a turbo setup on my 1g? N could u explain y they'd a better choice?

You probably want to look for the following on junkyards

2g:
Turbo Manifold - It flows better and is not prone to cracking like the 1g turbo mani
Throttle Elbow - Bigger than 1g Flows better.
Throttle Elbow to BOV Flange Piping - Again Bigger and Flows Better.

1g:
14b Turbo - A proper turbo. The 2g turbo is a piece of garbage
Blow Off Valve - Holds More Pressure than 2g
Injectors - Look for these on a Manual Trasmission Car, they are rated for a higher CC than the auto, and the non turbo
J pipe this comes off the turbo and goes to the lower intercooler pipe.
Lower Intercooler Piping
Intercooler
Upper Intercooler Piping
BOV Flange.

Thanx for all the imput I waz wonderin if the 1g is the easyist to mod into a 10 second car rather than the 2g .I've heard people say the same about 2g jw what the real answer is
