My car is basically stock with a dejon tool intake, k&n, hacked MAS, and the free mod on the BCS. Now my question is why on earth do i have 37 counts of knock at 6,343RPM's?

here is what i logged
RPM 6343
injp 15.35ms
knck 37
o2-R .91 V
TPS 80.00%
ISC 46.8
TIMA 8 degrees (i am assuming due to the knock sensor going crazy)
O2-f 2.96V
cool 87.5 c
AIRT 46.6 c
BARO .99bar'
FTLR 118.7%
FTRM 118.7%
FTRH 118.7%
FTO2 100%
MAFS 103.9 hz

I am slightly confused by the readings, i was not expecting such high knock. Could it be cali gas, or warm weather? I do not have a AFAC yet, so i can't make any changes. I logged it driving like I normally do, and no knock, everything read good. I am a newbie at this so please be patient.

thanks

well im no genious at tuning, i actually suck pretty bad at it LOL but were you WOT? cuz if so your tps should read 100% try adjusting the cable or something to make it open all the way... youre a little lean but its not TOO bad so i dunno, wait til someone who knows more respond...for now i blame it on gas...what octane were you running?

running 91, and i was pretty sure i was WOT. that was another thing i could not figure out why it said 80%. It peaked at 80% and stayed there the whole run. i don't think that would be directly related to knock though??? unless i was really WOT and the ECU is treating it like 80%??? This would make it lean and could cause the knock. still open to ideas.

well, i hooked up the data logger to my car when the ignition was on, but the engine was off, and the TPS was reading 99.6. So i did another run, and it showed up as 99.6, but i still had high knock. soooooooo, i am still confused.

How did you determine i was running lean? Just want to educate myself, but can't find the answers during a search. Thanks, guys. i have a good deal going on an unhacked MAS, so next week i will know if that was indeed the problem.

UPDATE:

I installed a unhacked MAS (thanks tensecondtalon) and nothing really changed.

RPM 6156
INJP 16.12
KNCK 30
O2-R .87
TPS 99.6
TIMA 12 deg.

AGHHHHHHH!!!!!!! My car is too stock for this. I am thinking my next step is to get a boost controler and a boost gauge. My understanding is, that if you remove the little nub in the BCS, it will raise the boost. I would like to bring it back down to stock and start from there.

I was also thinking about a fuel pump re-wire to try to get more fuel to compensate for the lean conditions. Any suggestions??????

*note to moderator. could you please move this to tunning talk. I thought it would be an easy fix. Thanks.

I left the battery undone overnight, and this morning I checked it. Highest the knock got was 21, but it was ten deg. cooler out side than the other logs. I did some more research and i don't think it is boost related. My newest thought is the O2 sensor going bad. Wouldn't a bad O2 sensor think the car is running rich, therefore leaning it out, when in actuality the engine is running fine?

Anyone know of a good place to get a knock sensor, and an O2 sensor for cheap??

I am doing the pulls in first second, then laying on it in third. I don't know if it is phantom knock, how do i check that? I also ruled out the knock sensor since there is no knock untill higher RPMS. first gear has knock (7-14), second gear has knock the second i get back on the gas, same with third. This is the first problem with the car, i would not have known about it untill last month when i got the logger.
I also can't figure out how to hot sync my logs onto my comp. to post. I am using MMcd with a Palm111xe. As for timming, i have never checked it. I am a college student with limited resources. I will look into checking the timming. hopefully we can figure this out soon.
Another thing that has always been around since i bought the car, is that when it idles (850 RPM) the RPM's drop a little then back up to normal, which made me think of hte O2 sensor.
Thanks for the help hakcenter.
One last thing, what does btdc mean. Is it before top dead center?

SOLUTION:

well, my timming was off. I took it to a really honest mechanic and he checked my cam angle sensor and it was off. he set it to five degrees, then tuned the idle. O counts of now, great timming advance. thanks for the feed back. I went to him with about 90% of things ruled out, and suggested we check the timming. He didn't even charge me for it! I also had my coolent replaced so it was no big deal for him. It was so nice to have an honest mechanic work on my car, NOT ONCE did he try to sell some bull shit for my car. Anyways, i can stop stressing now, and I have restored my love for my DSM!

I would like to thank hakcenter, I have learned SOOOOO much during this. It was a great experience dispite the mystery knock. DSMtuners is the best thing to happen to the DSM since the 4G63.

Quickplymouth, what's the name of the shop in chico? I've yet to find a mechanic I trust here in Santa Rosa, and often make runs to Chico for work.
