hey guys my name is Dallas and i bought my first car the other day and it's a 1997 eclipse gsx with a lot of work done to it already and I am completely new to cars let alone dsm's i need to know everything there is to know like the do's and do not's for this car my end goal is a 700hp car. Here is a list of what is already done to it and please let me know what is the next step on increasing my hp and making it an all around better car i just got it and i want to make it mine

The car has a forged built motor with only 3000km*****. Weisco Pistons 9:1 compression .20, K1 light rods, Brian crower 272 cams, Brian crower over sized valves, Brian crower titanium retainers, Brian crower springs, Metal headgasket, ARP hardware, Brian crower cam gears, Greddy timming belt, Forced Performance manifold, 62mm BBK throttle body,
All professinaly installed**
The car runs on the AEM ems system, So the car is fully tunable fuel, timing, boost, launch control, the list goes on very nice set up worth $1800 alone.
More mods
-3inch exhaust
-ACT 6 puck sprung cluth with 2100 preasure plate only 1500km
-Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel 1500km
-Evo 3 16g turbo
-Greddy BOV
-AEM Water/Meth injection kit (enables you to run more boost and make more power on pump gas)
-AEM Tru Boost gauge ( digital boost gauge that also lets you change your psi with ease. Very easy to use)
-Megan water temp gauge
-Megan Oil preasure gauge
-17 inch wheels

Welcome to the club! First, and most important, is do some reading. No one will give you a grocery list to 700 HP. Gettingto that power level requires a good deal of knowledge in the way that the parts come together to make power, and iisn't something that can be explained in a couple of paragraphs. Best advice, utilize this site. Lots of good information for the reading if you search ;).

thanks chris but I'm not necessarily looking for a grocery list more of a what can i do better then the previous owner, is what i have good? if not what should i replace it with. The 700hp is just my end goal I'm at about 300hp is what the owner said. I still have to take it to the dyno though

Umm, ditch those noise-maker BC cams, and go for a kelford 272 combo, or hks. That 2100 pp will probably be the next weak link. Maximize your current setup with a set of injectors and a fuel pump. Of course to do so will require it to be retuned, so might want to consider e85. People have made 400whp on a good e85 tune with the evo 3 16g

K272s are way overkill for him right now. The BCs will be just fine for over 500 wheel. Yes they arent as "good" as a kelford product but will still suffice and do their job well. If you want take a read through here OP http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cylinder-head-short-block/361516-cam-test-i-will-dyno-test-delta-hks-272-delta-k272-bc-272-cams.html

I think you need to start with some fuel mods.. Mess around with that and when you're comfortable with the AEM EMS start playin with some more boost. When you max the 16g out think about another turbo set up. Remember to think ahead when buying injectors. I personally think anything smaller than 1000s are a stupid buy.

Like Chris said, read read read.

The more you know, the better your choices will be.

Also make sure to catch up on ALL maintenance before even thinking about modding.

Also...post up some pics!

Welcome to the addiction.

I have to agree on k272's being too large for the current 16g. As well as agreeing on that clutch is probably going to need an upgrade soon.

Sounds like a great pick up. Maybe a starting point would be getting it to a well known tuner and see what she is putting down. That should give you a good idea on what direction to go in.

This is your first car and you want a streetable 700hp?

I agree with crash, spend a good $600-$700 on your fuel system and get that 16g going around 20-24psi.

That will be enough kick in the pants to hold you over till you drop thousands to hit 700hp...

re tuning the car wont be a problem because it still needs to be tuned in the first place the last time it was tuned was before the new motor was put in so i just gotta make my way over to Vancouver to their awd dyno and thanks alot guys ill do some reading up on good fuel pumps and injectors and if you follow up i plan on having picks up in about a week also to clarify it is MY first car like first car of my own I'm 21 and have had my license since I was 18 so its not like I don't know how to drive completely

I dont mean this rude at all... so dont take it that way. There is a difference between moms 130 hp minivan and a 700hp street machine.

That being said you will be redoing the brakes, suspension, tires, transmission, axles... it goes on and on... the car itself isnt made stock to handle that power... you basically have the built motor. Now you have to drop the other (id say at least ) 5 grand on everything else...

I wasnt getting at any point that you cant drive or anything like that. Im getting at its more than, "im gonna slap this big turbo on and make 700hp because the last guy built the motor".

Make sense?

I bet if the tune is as bad as you say and you get it right you'll be happy with where its at, probably 400 ponies

.
Also, have you verified injectors? I couldnt really imagine someone dropping the cash on aem stuff to tune 450's... thats where id start. Figuring out what fuel system is in it... if you have an afpr on the rail id assume its not stock

I didn't realize that Vancity had wide spread e85?
I agree, maximize what you have. You don't even know what's in the car but you already want to change things.

Make the car yours by treating it with respect, taking things a little more slowly, and optimizing the current potential. Save the basketball sized turbo pipedreams for when you've already got $3000 coilovers, $1000+ tires, etc. etc.

P.S. Whoever said that clutch setup was the weak link needs their head checked. That combo will hold 400ft.lbs.

I'm meeting up with the previous owner today actually and i will find out what he put in because before buying it he told me he put in a new battery, fuel pump, oil filter, and oil change of course

21 and barely got your first car? How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking.
I lost my license when i was 19 too clarify not due to unsafe driving i got a lot of bullshit tickets including unnecessary noise at 12am because my tire chirpped for about 1 second because i over extended on the turn so that was a 3 point ticket and $100 and once i reached 15 points so 5 retarded tickets i lost it for 2 years im only just getting it back on may 7th i know what you are thinking 5 tickets come on you must have deserved one of them true i was caught speeding doing 61km in a 50km and another two tickets for too many passengers also i paid $8500 for it

This is your first car and you want a streetable 700hp?
This. I'm guessing you're fairly young right? This may sound great on paper and is a nice figure to toss around when shooting the sh*t with your friends but I think it's best to drive the car as is for a while until you get used to it. A car that powerful at your age is a recipe for loosing your licence from to many tickets, etc followed by outrageous insurance rates. I know you don't want to hear this sort of advice, but . . .

thanks for all the great information I am going to listen and not worry about upgrading for right now i will be getting it dynoed still and focus on maintenance and bringing the interior back to life its not in bad shape honestly for a 16yr old car

i will be posting pictures of the car inside and out in about 1 week and I'm getting it dynoed in about July i will post results then so if you want to see what I'm working with then stick around and check back around may 8th for what it looks like its got a brand new paint job on it as well

Cool beans.

The Canadian market is surely different as far as an Eclipse goes. Is that a common price for these cars? Are the talons considerably more affordable[since they'd be a hundred times more available]?

Also, what of e85in Vancity?

i paid $8500 for it

Oh wow. I can tell you right now that you will not be able to use anything already on the car if you want to shoot for 700hp, with the exception of the AEM EMS. I can tell you that if you don't have another $30k to invest you won't hit 700hp.

What you should do is shoot for 420ish whp and call it good. 700hp is just insane, very few people make it there, even fewer will DD those cars.
