Ok, I just got my first build built this past saturday. Having problems where the car won't stay running. I'm just curious if there was anything I was suppose to do with the timing, besides lining up the timing belt, before the first start up? I see a few sections in the haynes manual, and have heard people talk about setting base timing and base idle but both of these adjustments seem to be set after you get the engine running and idling. Just want to make sure I didn't miss an adjustment that I was suppose to do before I started her up. I don't think there is one, but if there is please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

line up all of the timing marks and make sure the no. 1 cyl is at top dead center. then pull the cas to check that the paddle is facing the correct position . the grooved side of the paddle faces the dot on the back side of the cas. that will get you in the ball park to start the car and set timing.

Ok, not sure if I had it backwards or not when I pulled it out because I hit the intercooler hose by accident and it spun the paddle. I did make sure to put it in correctly, with the timing marks lined up, and visually made sure the number 1 cylinder was top dead center. It didn't make a difference though, still having the same problem. Here is a link to my other post stating what the car is doing:

I honestly thought that was going to be it though. If you have any other ideas, hit me, and thanks for that one so far.

Ok. So finally broke down and started taking things apart. When I pulled off my crank pulley and checked my timing, I realized it jumped 2 teeth on the crank sprocket. Went and head and got a better belt and going to redo it tonight. I'll post the results either tonight or tomorrow.
