im working on a 91 tsi with a 90 4g63t, ive got the cas and coil and and PT for the 91 harness. i checked the power transistor like is says here and nothing is lighting up, 1 and 4 or 2 and 3. but the car starts and runs on 2 and 3. WTF?!?!?!?!?!

please help?! pretty please. with wipped cream on top.

there are 2 plugs from the harness routed behind the motor, that have no home. could this be it?

does any one have a wiring diagram for the 90 and or 91 turbo? this would help a grip.

For my friends 2g the transistor pack had messed up and was firing on 2 and 3, its wierd how it runs like that I think its a good motor. 90 and 91 harnesses and CAS are different and I would have gotten the CAS to fix the problem instead of wiring up the plug. take a picture of the homeless plugs.

ive been working on this car with colt. new to dsm. seasond rookie tuner.
one of the plugs is a single wire, Black/white, comes out behind the engine on the drivers of the intake. the other is a 2 wire ovel plug with (i think) green/yellow and blue/white coming out at almost the same spot.
the power transistor for the 91 dont work. the one for the 90 does. the 90 has 2 less wires.

Were is the the (awd) condenser?

hondas are so much easyer to work on...............
awd is better though.

these guys above ^^^ are exactly right... my 2g was firing on 2 & 3 and i was thinking it was coils since i wasn't getting spark on those cylinders. after swapping coils and the problem wasn't fixed i jumped on here and found a thread saying that it might be the cam angle sensor (CAS). i closely examined mine and noticed a hairline crack in the plastic casing around the connector so i jiggled it and cylinders 1 & 4 just started firing. WTF so if i were you id be looking at that sensor before i started looking at the spark plugs/coils/etc.

good luck

well before i go there i need to know if a 90 power transistor will work on a 91 car.. if it wont then there is the problem. other wise its the cas. where is the CPS?

CPS is on 2gs only. CAS is on 1gs. Im guessing its the transistor. I know 90 stuff is different with the CAS and I think the transistor too, but search and see if you find your answer.

Well I swapped a working coil on the car yesterday and it started on all 4's accompanied by a really loud knocking sound, as you bring the RPMS up the noise comes with it...

I am thinking that it is rod knock because it seems like its to loud to be a spun bearing, but when I first did this rebuild I ripped off the timing cover to find no balance shaft belt OMG. The guy I bought it from must have cut it off for some extra ponies not relizing it will mess your shit up. Also how likely is it that you would get rod knock from a dry start(no oil on startup)

So its either Spun balance shaft bearing or rod knock... What do you guys think?

EVERYONE!! I HAVE THE FIX TO THIS PROBLEM. I JUST HAD THIS PROBLEM AND REPLACED "EVERYTHING" I GOT NEW PLUGS, COIL ON PLUG SETUP, NEW IGNITION COIL, NEW... EVERYTHING... EXCEPT!!!! Part # MD189747 (95 Eagle Talon TSI 4g63) called the "Ignition Power Transistor". It is located to the left of the ignition coil pacs. It has either 5 or 6 wires going to it, and it looks like a pointless little box. There are 2 12mm bolts that hold it to the intake manifold. The part cost $131 through Advanced Auto.
My 1st and 4th pistons would not fire. Well, they quit, then they started working out of no where. They then died completly while on my way to work! So, I started replacing everything! I saw that plug and played with it and it wouldn't work. I tested it with a meter and it was dead. I called the dealer and they couldn't get one, I then called NAPA and it was $161 through them. I called Advanced Auto and they got it for $131. I brought it home and plugged it in and BAM! ALL my cylinders are back up and working PERFECTLY!! You have no clue how great that is! :)
