In about 2 weeks ill finally start tearing apart my engine and start the rebuild.
It's a 14 year old motor with 150k miles, there is a shit ton to clean and wanted to know what solutions help with degreasing the parts that wont get sent to the machine shop. (bolts, pulleys, timing covers..etc)

Also what parts not to forget to clean while everything is out.

Thanks.

Power sprayer and simple green works great.

Smaller parts you can stick in the dishwaser with some quality grease soap. I like to use dawn.

Other wise, loads of shop towels, lots of break cleaner and engine degreaser. Wire brush, flat razor blades, etc.

Air compressor, blast cabinet and your choice of media. You'll spend hours using chemical cleaners only to find your parts are still dirty and old looking.

Blast your parts with sand then brake cleaner and be done in 30 seconds. Paint if desired.

Gallon jugs of simple green / engine bay degreasers add up over time not to mention some of them will stain aluminum.

You can get a complete setup for roughly $200 at harbor freight. Just keep an eye out for their 20% coupons in the paper. The bigger the compressor tank the better.

Personally I bought a 60 gallon dual stage and ran hard lines to various regulators in my shop for easy access. Haven't spent a dollar on degreasers in over two years.

I was thinking of doing this but I simply dont have the place to store/use the machine. I did wanted to get the thermostat housing and water pipe along with other things media blasted, would a shop's bill be a hefty one if i decide to take parts to paint shop?
