Alright, I finally got them - 91 TSi and a 91 GSX. The TSi has 145.000 miles and runs great. It's got a 26 lb clutch, ported head and a ported rebuilt turbo. They also cut the exhaust off at the muffler, which kind of pisses me off, but that's cheap to replace. But the Talon runs great, only thing is when you are really getting on it in the higher RPMs, it starts surging, I think it's called blow-by? Anyways, what's the easiest, cheapest way to fix that problem? Other than that the Talon is great.

The Eclipse....it needs some TLC. It's got 167,000 miles, of what looks like some hard driving. It's got MASSIVE lifter tick, smokes a little on start, and the idle surges sparatically. Other than that, and some ricey interior paint work, it's not bad. It's got a rigged up BOV. It's got a rebuilt turbo also. What do you think I should start out with for the Eclipse? I just started it out on it's first dose of synthetic blend oil and premium gas.

Thanks for input, guys.

Blow by is when the gases in your cylinders blow by the rings and into the crank case. That's what your PCV is for, to vent those fumes in there. I'd say plugs and wires will fix your problem tho.

I wouldn't have gone synthetic with that many miles, especially where you said it already burns oil. I wouldn't be surprised if you develop some new oil leaks soon. Idle surge is a common problem and can be caused by a few things. I think there's a tech article here or at vfaq.com that explains how to fix it.

switching to synthetic may or may not mess up a higher mileage motor. I switched to synthetic on my old plymouth breeze at 140,000 miles and it had no ill effects. What did mess it up was the kid who bought it from me put the fossil crap back in it for its first oil change and it seemed to be leaking everywhere at 162,000.

That's kind of wierd he leaked with dino over synthetic. My car leaks like crazy if I put synth in it, my front and rear main seals do not like it with 125k on the clock. Just doesn't gum up like the dino oil. Then again, I went to a blend instead of a full changeover to reg.

So basically, you guys are saying I shouldn't have gone with the synthetic blend? I haven't noticed any changes yet, good or bad. But I've only driven it for a few minutes. And the previous owner said that it burned probably about a quart of oil per every oil change, so about a quart in 3000 miles. Which isn't bad I don't think. Hopefully it won't get worse now.

if you aren't leaking at ALL or very little then you can usually switch to synth without a problem

my ride wasn't leaking when I switched at 127k to full synth and I had to add 1 quart during 10k highway miles on the first oil change
