Well after almost 3 years of research, buying parts, more research, buying more parts, etc... its finally time to get my car built. Should go in the shop in a week or 2, which means i wont have it for NOPI, but it should be done in about a month. Iv attached a copy of all the parts going in it, incase anyone is interested in seeing what $8k will get you. Ill keep you guys posted and hopefully have some pics soon.

if you have any questions feel free to ask.

3k or less depending on how smoothly things go and if i forgot any parts. might seem high to some but its worth it to me.

Looks really good except for 2 things.

1. What kind of clutch is DXD, just wondernig cause I haven't heard about them?

2. Reconisder going with the OBX helical LSD, If you search for it, you'll find a thread of a member of this website who tried it and had terrible fitment issues and it barely lasted a month before tearing his tranny apart. I think it was Baxsom.

If your dumping all this money, spring for the extra $700 to get the Quafie LSD, you could do this by sacraficing a couple of things on the list that are completely nesscesarry right away.

But if your are going to get an LSD, that OBX one, isn't worth it.

nothing against your shifter plate bushings but i would reccomend:

symborski kit from mach v

B & M short shifter on 50% throw reduction. (maybe the knock off also? dont know i own the original)

IMO: you got all the go fast goodies just a way to make using them more enjoyable.

Don't waste your money on symborski bushings. You can do it for about $5. Use washers. And for the tranny side, Use two roller blade bearings. Unless you like to over-pay for your parts, Then do what you want.

Isn't the symbroski kit like only $15 shipped. At least thats how much I payed for mine. I find it easier to pay somone $10 then to go and find roller blade bushings. Although saving a dime here and there can come in handy sometimes too. Too each his own.

I tried both the rollerblade bearings and the CNC machined brass bushings. The rollerblade bearings will do just fine if you're really adamant about spending a few dollars. However, I didn't like them because they're not the right thickness, and you really need to force them in. The brass bushings (Speed Source) fit like a glove and haven't caused any problems yet.

As for the shifter plate bushings... washers will do, but if you go that route, you don't get that smaller diameter shifter sleeve that comes with the Symborski kits. I found that I was getting a lot of play from that sleeve, so the improved one really tightened shifting.

Just remember to put white lithium or general purpose grease on all moving parts.

Wow, looks pretty good as far as parts go..
I will also have the 2nd the LSD you chose. I've heard horror stories with these as well. The quaife seems best way to go..
I have one question though, whynot save yourself some money ($3,000) and do the work yourself? Anytime you need help you can consult a shop. It's not very hard at all. I saved $1500 by swapping my motor myself, and I don't even have a garage! The turbo you can also do, which is pretty simple and easy to do. That will save you more money.

Then again I realize some people prefer the shop route, which I respect. Hey, atleast you know it's all being done the right way, and when you pick up the car it's ready to go.

Congrats and good luck. :thumb:

thanx for the comments guys. i didnt know the OBX LSD was a POS, iv always had good luck with OBX parts, thats why i bought it from them. that and the fact it was a cheaper LSD. I guess ill look into buying a Quife, but i guess i need to sell this OBX one first, bc i dont have that kind of money laying around. as for using a shop, i dont have the knowledge, tools, space, or time to do all the work that im need done. hopefully everything turns out ok and i have no problems.

WTF Did not know they made staggered washers? ohh wait they don't, therefore it would not be the exact same. Machined staggered bushings in the symborski kit keep the shifter plate more stable and secure. not to mention the smaller diameter shifter sleeve. What is peoples deal, dont half a$$ something that cheap.

edit: I'm not saying the symborski kit is a good value, but its the best part for the job.

Alright, alright. That was a little intense for someone who just said they were sorry... let's drop it now.

Couple of questions:

Which diff is better Quiefe or Kaaz?
Where i can get a buy price of either of these?
Should i buy a new diff or just have the OBX taken apart and inspected, and fixed if anythign needs to be fixed?

I just wanna make sure i do this build the right way the first time..TIA

Don't even bother with the OBX. The lack of quality can be seen in many facets of its design, all the way down to the materials used.

I don't think Kaaz even makes an LSD for our cars, so you're pretty much stuck with Quaife. Last time I checked, they cost $1,250.

Would a phantom grip be a good alternative for the time being. I wouldnt mind buying a Quiafe later on but im not too excited about spending $1250 anytime soon.....

God no! No offense to anyone that has one, but I would never put a PhantomGrip on my diff..

LSDs work by using clutches to appropriately distribute power between the two wheels. PhantomGrips try to replicate this effect by creating a crude "clutch" consisting of a metal on metal contact (bad idea). They are known to put undue stress on the spider gears, and eventually grenade inside your tranny...

If anything, I would consider getting one of those RetroFit LSDs (through Exile Racing???) in the meantime; those at least use a clutch material instead of relying solely on metal-to-metal contact.

Anyone ever heard of these LSDs??? just trying to find a good alternative to $1250

http://www.importperformancetrans.com/mitsubishiauto.shtml#main

click the link, scroll down to Drivetrain Parts and its in the LSDs. I dunno if i would need one for a large axle shaft or small axle shaft though, i would assume large. looking for an opinion on if this would be a good alternative or not.

Even though what Paul linked to will get the job done, why not save up alittle more cash and get the Quaife and have peace of mind. The transmission is a vital part of your vehicle(obviously). Not only that but it's not the easiest thing to work on. I say it like that since you've already mentioned that you don't have the knowledge to do this work on your own. So why would you want to risk having to pay for it over again?

That's just how I see it considering you're putting X amount of dollars into your car here.

X = large :p
