Just a heads up to anyone who has bought one recently. First off, at the top the the step height where the pressure plate is bolted down to had burrs that measured at .005" tall at ALL the edges of the step (see pic). I know it doesn't mean much since aluminum is pretty soft and when you bolt down that pressure plate it'll probably just deform and you will still (hopefully) maintain proper step height of .608"-.610". I did not take the chance and used a deburring tool and put a nice break on all those corners.
Then I proceeded to check the step height. Sigh of relief because my first reading was .6095" BUT as I continued around the friction surface, I found that it is NOT flat! It was tapered down from the center of the flywheel by a whole .005"! According to RRE and TRE, we should never be any shallower than .608". My flywheel checked at .605" at the point closest to the center and checked in spec near the pressure plate step height. I'm thinking that this flywheel will grab ONLY at the spots checking .605" and will probably slip, wear excessively and possibly ruin transmission synchros.
Please share any success or failure stories when inspecting Fidanza or ACT flywheels. I'm not sure which one to pick but will definitely be calling Fidanza on Monday morning.
