Mainly I went to buy these gears as a future way of tuning my turbocharged RS (it's coming...), plus I was at 75K and my timing belt needed replacement, so why not kill two birds with one stone? Over all... Our timing belts are a bi*** to get out. I didnt want to mess with it myself so I took it to my tuner shop. I dropped it off at about 10:30am. They already had another DSM (GST) on the lift and they said it was a big job, but they'd get my car back to me before 5pm (I had to work at 6)

5pm rolls around and I have my ol'girl drop me off on her way to work. As soon as I walked in, the counter got silent, and they just stared at me. Of course I'm like "Oh sh!t... I'm gonna be late for work". They tell their putting my engine back together and it'll be another couple hours... I said "fine" and sat and waited... 7:30pm comes , and to make a long story short, they were in the process of putting my motor mount back in... Needless to say I didnt make it to work last night. So it's 9:30pm right (technically they closed 2 hours ago), and I'm hopping into my car to give it go. I didnt feel a real difference down low, but above 60mph it sounded like a friggin beast, hella more pull up top. Not bad for 189 bucks. Next stop Underdrive pulley and various ignition upgrades!

P.S. If any of you live in the South Broward or North Dade area or Florida, I recommend Premier Autotechniks for anything you need doing, really good guys. Watched them drop a RB26DET into a 96 240SX, can you say "bad ass". They got 267whp outta turbo SOHC Civic w/ a stock bottom end and 321whp outta built bottom end SOHC Civic @ 20psi, not to mention 498whp Evo they got.

Did they advance the timing?

Also, this site is not to advertise/promote your preffered shop. If somone is looking to find shops in your area they will post in the "Hangout" section.

Ptuning.com we have a 5% discount there as DSMtuner.com members. Go to the sponsors section on the bar at the top of the page. If you use that link, you'll be recognized as DSMtuners member. I got them for 189.98 free shipping too. And the shop is off Pines and Palm AVE, in the tire kingdom plaza. And I wasnt advertising, just trying to give out info to the people in my area. There have been several times where I'm scanning the baord and come across a member looking for a good shop in their area who dont live more than 10 miles away from me. Two birds one stone. Sorry if I somehow offended you boss.

Its ok, just don't let happen again.;)

Oh, you still didn't answer my question. Did they advance the timing?

...hmm. Hope I didnt lead you to believe that I actually cared if I offended you or not, called sarcasm. But whatever, I'm not well-versed on engine timing. I just know basic facts here and there. I know they set the gears at dead center, and I know it's good to retard the timing on the exhaust side when your turbocharging your engine, outside of that I have no idea. Didnt stick around too long to ask questions seeing as it was nearly 10 o'clock at night and they wanted to leave, plus I was a little passed irritated because I missed work. Again, the main reasons for buying them was the lightweight factor, timing belt was coming off, and for future tuning with my turbo system. Could you explain the advantages of advancing the timing on my engine right now?
 :dsm: :talon: :laser:

...hmm and I hope you know it was just a smartass comment:thumb:

About the cam gears, why are you saying it feels like a "friggin beast" above 60mph if they weren't advanced?

Please stop spreading this information, other newbies could think that by just adding camgears and leaving them set at 0 will add power.

-sigh- Your making it really hard to like you.

Again... I said I'm NOT well versed in engine timings and had no idea if they advanced or left my timing alone. All I know is at higher RPM's my engine roars and picks up a hell of a lot faster than it used to. Down low, not much improvement if any. I even humbled myself enough to ask for your input, to explain to me what these cam gears can do for me outside what I already knew. If all your good for on this board is getting on peoples nerves and playing moderator, then dont post yo. But if you do have some information to share, then do that without being a "smartass". Care to answer my original question now?

The original question would be in the original post, right? ^^^
That is the only question I see. So, in that case I guess your right.

..I know they set the gears at dead center..

Im pretty sure you know if your gears were advanced or not.

..If all your good for on this board is getting on peoples nerves and playing moderator.

My intentions here are not to make friends. It is to gain knowledge and help others gain the correct information.

I rarely see any Mods. come in this section. So, someone has to make sure the correct information is given out, Yo.

If you would of posted something other than "it felt like a friggin beast" when knowing the cams gears were not advanced, then maybe I would have been a bit nicer.

First off, top_end95, I said SOUNDED not felt. Big difference there. Read then ridicule. Not once during this thread have given out any "false" information, but posted my personal experience with my car, and making the mistake of asking your pompous ass a question, thinking you'd offer a hand. I already said I didnt feel much of a difference down low, just a much better pull at higher speeds. I dont know if it was from a change in my timing or from weight lost from my stock cam gears, you could have helped there, but you chose not to. As for giving out correct information, you havent succeded there either. You wanna feel special or important around here, try actually HELPING somebody. Yo. I'm done with you.

Initial DSM
I'm planning on installing a set of Crane 0014 street-turbo grind camshafts, but thats after I turbocharge it. Dont think they'd benefit me much in my present N/T status. When I say "plan" to turbocharge it, I mean at least 8 months to a year from now. Sooner if I can help it.

If making personal attacks make you feel like a bigger man..then be it, but do not make it public, PM me.

..hella more pull up top. Not bad for 189 bucks

What wrong with those two statements?;)

..As for giving out correct information, you havent succeded there either.

Go ahead and read thru my past posts.

If you have a problem with me, PM me.

Good day.:D

Reverse psychology, real cute. Do you even read entire posts or just stop where you see fit? Not once have I denied feeling a better pull up top. Matter of fact, I posted it twice! Again, it may have nothing to do with the timing, but there IS a definite increase in power at higher MPH. What are saying? That it's impossible to do without messing with the timing? If that's so, why bother with lightening the gears along with making them adjustable? My lord, there is absolutely no point to your argument, everything you've said is proven false in the same post your trying to rip at. Someone needs to report YOU to a moderator, because yes you do give out good advice on the board, I've read it. But I've also seen you, well post like this. Lot's of help trying to point out falsehoods that dont exist.

 :dsm: :talon: :laser:

Im just going to say one last thing.

Cam gears alone (not advanced) will not yield any gains . So, until you have a dyno chart showing the increase of power from cam gears set at 0, do not state that it does.

Good day.:D

I got Fidanza timing gears on mine, has slipped yet. ( I drive my car pretty hard. it's got 5 bolts holding the gear which is kind of plus.

OMG! You gave me actual information! I'm proud of you. All this ranting, and this is the first time you EVER stated your point to all this. Go ahead and read your past posts. Thank you, though I do disagree, I respect your opinion, now why dont you have a nice day :D

As for this slipping, I'll keep an eye on them and report back any defects I come across. :thumb: :dsm: :talon: :laser:

are you ever going to dyno tune them? i just ordered my UDP, and i just got my shift kit in.. but i am thinking after i install those, then cam gears are the way to go.. I heard AEM cam gears are bad.. but Fidanza or however you spell it is pretty good. did you get TWO cam gears for 189? or just one?

I got both, and I plan on taking my ride to the dyno in a week or so. A friend of mine will be coming up on a 91' 2.2L PGT and wee wanna see who'll come out on top (though he'll be bone stock...we already know he'll be putting down somewhere around 160-170lbs tq). When I get the results I'll be sure to post them, if your going to wait.
