upon searching I found this article:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-intake-exhaust/320951-fiav-adjustment-disable.html

It suggests taking out the freeze plug and turning the valve for the fiav in till it permanently closes the valve allowing no air ever to get past it. I would like to keep my isc but not the fiav so coolant doesnt cook my new isc. My question is would it be necessary to run a fiav bypass plate if you do this mod? I'm guessing no, but wanted another opinion. Thanks for the insight.

Your guess is correct. You wont need the block off plate. You've merely disabled the FIAV not removed it.

But have fun trying to start the car when its cold :ohdamn:

It's not hard to start the car when it's cold. It's the keeping it on part till the car warms up.

It's pretty difficult to do this mod. Our TB's are old and the FIAV valve is plastic and very brittle. Just trying to get the thing to turn and not break is tough. Good luck!

Dont let anyone deter you from this. This is the best thing ive ever done to my dsm that was free. I used needle nose pliers to turn the valve in, sure cold idle isnt that great, but it beats the idle issue when warm. I run 272s, and my idle is perfect when the car is warmed up thanks to this. RRE knows whats up. Try it out, its not like you cant reverse it!

i soaked the hell out of mine with wd-40 and it turned smooth, this was a perfect idea to do since my idle was about 2000rpm cold start, i turned mine 75% the way in and cold start, hot start its a perfect 1000rpm now even in dead of winter, plus i dont have any of the water lines hooked up to the t-body.

another question.. so this disables the isc as well? since the spring is turned in and the valve is closed it doesnt let any air thru when the isc pintle moves in? I turned the valve in, it went a little stiff but its old. I also removed/looped the coolant lines. Wouldn't this be the same as putting a block off plate on the bottom of the tb? Thanks for the help guys.
