Langley,
I have a couple things i need answers to. First, my idle is shit. The car will either drop to 500 and kick back up or stall. Then after driving on the freeway will sit around 1000rpm. I believe it is the ISC but I really dont want to spend the money to replace it. You cant clean it can you? because it is an electrical unit, right? Second, the Emergency Brake light on the dash(exclamation point) will come on and off when I make turns and such. Sometimes it will just flash and sometimes it will stay on for minutes. I think it is a loose connection somewhere, but are there any other suggestions? Lastly, I bought an oil pan for my car back when I first got it. But, for the last year it has been leaking and I have replaced the gasket several times. Anyone know how to fix a leak in that area?

First off there is no fix for an ISC except replacing it. Pull the ISC out and turn the ignition key on and see if it moves around. As far as the emergency brake light it sounds like you have a ground wire that is touching when you corner the car. On the oil pan, make sure it is the right on, make sure the edge is straight and use a gasket as well as RTV to seal it.

as stated above there isnt much you can do for the isc motor, as far as the brake light coming on, have you checked the brake fluid? because if the fluid is low the the light will come on when the float is moved in the reservoir. Also the e brake switch could have a loose connection. the oil pan will leak if you put a gasket on it ( at least the dsms that I have put one on have). They did not have one from the factory and do not need one, all that they need is some ultra grey rtv an that will fix the problem. Every time I have put a gasket on one it has leaked, when I take the pan back off and just use rtv they cont leak and the bolts dont loosen thereselves up, with the gasket on there the bolts kept wanting to come loose. Anyway they are not supposed to have a gasket on the oil pan.

yep, brake fluid was low, just topped it up and the light did not come on driving home. I'm going to check on the oil gasket thing. And, i was quoted a price of $450CAD for a new ISC. does that sound right? I also found a place online that sells for like $150US.

thanks guys

no offense smokey, but can someone else verify that statement. I just want to be sure.

The ISC went bad on my 1g talon and instead of buying a brand new one i found one on ebay that was tested and guaranteed for 50 bucks, i bought it installed it and it was fine, just an idea to save you some money, also Ongreenperformance sells used parts that are tested and work for dsm cars maybe they could hook you up with an ISC for cheap just another thought, the ISC for the 1990 dsm is different from the ISC for the 1991 to 1994 dsm cars

They came from the factory with RTV. I used a gasket once that came with an engine gasket set, and leaked immediately. It was a POS.

Make sure you check all this out before you replace something that might not be bad.

I'm assuming your CEL is not on because that would be the first thing to fix. Any of those sensors could screw up the idle.
I beleive there is something in there on how to test the ISC too.

As far as the RTV goes, use the Gold. It's the most durable. On my race car I goop that stuff up to 1/4 inch on the front and back of my intake. Never blew and there is alot of pressure in those motors. I've also used in on rear end covers with no issues.
