I find lots of threads discussing removing all the Emission parts. I haven't found how to avoid the CELs generated by doing that. I see those who say ignore it. However, now that North Carolina plugs into the ODBII for inspection I need a way to fake it out (short of re-installing it all). Since I don't have it anymore I would have to buy it.:notgood:

I would think that since they were originally Solenoids I could just put a resistor in the plug. Has anyone done that? If so what resistance?

im not sure what you can do but resitors wont work.

the thing automakers like about obd2 is that is checks itself.

on a first gen you could do whatever because it checked that the sensor was there but didnt have a way to tell if it worked.

2g's will actually watch and make sure that opening the evap solenoid makes the o2 go rich, and the the egr makes it go lean etc.....

Thanks that is helpful.

I have some solenoids from a 1G. Do think those would work since I don't have the original 2G ones?

One does. The other one is the fuel pressure solenoid from the 1G. I took the plug from the 1G and adapted it to the 2G. I know it is the wrong solenoid but I want to see if it will keep the CEL off so I can pass the emission check.

when you get an inspection cant they tell if the cel was on and if it was corrected and not just reset? I mean doesnt it "remember" the code or what ever?

You could get dsmlink and set it to ignore the CEL's. They wont trigger for the emissions people because the ECU is ignoreing them. Unless they have an actual way to check to see if they are responding/working you could put them in for visuals and cut the wires.

hey slowman, you know now in NC if your car is a 95 or older there is no emissions check o safety inspection.

That is a big negatory. They do a physical inspection and if there is any evidense of tampering they fail you and look closer. I know this because a buddy of mine just got failed on 2 cars. One because the air box was missing and the other because the smog pump was. One was a 91 mazda and the other a 82 porsche.

You could always pull the CE light so they dont see it. Its what I did to pass a while back:rocks:

ok here in jersey i am a certified license state inspector for my job at my shop. here in jersey we do an obdII inspection for 96 and newer, now you CANT pull the bulb because the ecu will still have a code and it will fail. depending on the code sometimes the computer will let it slide if its not serious. now if you reset the light and go to the inspection machine when you plug the connector in and it communicates with the ecu then the ecu will tell the machine that it isnt ready and fail for readiness test. reason why is because you reset the light which resets basically the whole ecu so the ecu will have to run for alot of miles (anywhere from 50 -200 miles) in order to reset it self and do its test and cycle, then when it does that your readiness test is all good but then again you got your check engine light. so as far as it goes all you can do is maybe ask someone that can hook you up and slap a sticker on for you. but just wanted to let you know some stuff before you went... here in jersey if you fail you have 45 days to fix it so if your out of time with your sticker then jsut go and fail this way at least you have an extra 45.
