Failed Tial wastegate springs

This isn't a new issue. I have read of similar problems with fake Tial units. You won't have a problem out of the real deal. I have used them for years and never had a problem any Tial unit even at over 900 RWHP. I have a brand new Tial 38mm unit in the box. Let me know if you would like pictures of the springs for comparison. The Chinese knockoffs are absolute junk..............

In my experience it is highly unlikely that the vendor is going to own up to any wrong doing even if they are deliberately and knowingly passing stuff off as the real deal but again this is ONLY MY EXPERIENCE.

I would suggest sending the entire unit to Tial and let them decide if you have their stuff or not. I bought this latest unit (38mm) from MAPeformance so I am not worried about it. If Tial decides that you have been supplied with a knockoff unit I would call the vendor you bought it from and present Tials findings to them and ask how it can be resolved. Chances are that they are just going to tell you that you should have sent it to them (The vendor.) first but had you done so they most likely would have passed the buck off to the Manufacturer. Catch-22. Just some thoughts.

I wouldnt freak out untill you start having problems. Who did you get your gate from? And the OP's springs looked as if someone took an acetylene torch to them to get the right bar pressure. All retention was completely gone. There was no discoloration on the gate itself to consider heat transfer so my guess was that it was made of a different material and/or didnt get tempered by whoever made it. I dont know what the final verdict was on them, i just got a look at them when disassembling.

You will need to contact your supplier first and see if they will send it in to us if something is wrong. If they are of no help then contact Jake at Tial.

No, I had to pay $80 for the repairs, I'm not too concerned about having to spend $$ if it means getting my car back on the road. At least now I know 110% that its got authentic parts because TiAL did it themselves and if they use knockoff parts at their own factory then they need a slap I got back yesterday, put it on today, fired the car up with a big smile on my face...unfortunately that instantly turned into a big ass frown as all I could smell was gas, further inspection showed my fuel feed line was leaking right at the crimped connector that attaches to the rail soooooo, now I have to try and get the line off the fuel filter...that sucker will not budge and it will probably just be easier for me to rip out the whole filter and replace it along with the line as I cant cant break the top bolt free to get the line off

I would like to add that punishment has contacted me and offered to pick up the tab for repair costs and stated they will be checking in with their supplier about the spring issue. This is the kind of great costomer service that you hear about from the vendors that makes them reputible companies. Hundreds of people buy from punishment without any issues along with many other vendors, its more than likely just my sh*t luck that this happened to me twice as there are so many who have the exact same setup with no issues at all and now that my wastegate issue has been fixed its on to another problem, the DREADED FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT problem is actually a leaking fuel feed line but I might as well replace the filter now while I'm at it and I cannot get this thing off, its almost easier to sell the car

I had the same problem with my line not wanting to separate from the filter. I know have -6AN lines form the tank to the rail with a fuel lab filter. Much nicer to work on.

And I'm glad you got your wastegate sorted out. I hope it last you many thousands of miles.

Will do, won't be for a while tho as I still can't get the top banjo to break free and I can't get to the bottom , might be easier to just cut it out and replace all the fuel lines

Uodate for the fuel filter, got my fuel lab feed line and filter, started attempting to take it off (again) and...well let's jump ahead to day 5 of trying to get it off...still wont budge, decided I to give it hell, it was either gunna break or break loose...well I now need to replace the whole line from the pump to filter as it twisted and kinked...words of advice to anybody needing to change their fuel filter, PAY A MECHANIC TO DO IT FOR YOU...

Update: Got the Braided line from tank to fuel lab filter, ss braided from filter to rail installed, put everything back together, went for a drive and only boosting 1 or 2 psi...I'm hoping its just a boost leek this time, if I have to tear this thing apart again, the TiAL is going in the garbadge and I will try a different brand...or I'll just give up on this car and sell it as I have had it

I'm hoping it's a boost leak, as i really dont want to tear it apart again, it was too late to look into tonight so I will do a BLT in the morning and hopefully find the leak. It would have to be a huge leak to get no boost would it not? I need to get my exhaust bolted up in the a.m as it is not yet connected to the o2 housing. Maybe the 0 backpressure is the cause? Wait and see I guess

past the turbo, 0 back pressure is actually a goal. check for clogged/pinched/ruptured lines to the gate as well. id even just run a brand new line bypassing your boost controller straight to the gate. check and double check everything. goodluck.

Blt held solid 30psi, cant hear spool at all, can't feel boost at all, tried running wastegate pressure with exact same results, out of ideas, Gunna give up for the winter, maybe flatbed it out to a guy 3hrs away and rip the entire motor out and rebuild with forged internals, bigger injectors, fuel pump, afpr, cams, and go from there

I hate to say it but I think this TiAL gate shit the bed before it moved out of my garage, I'm getting the same 1-2 psi as I was before. It is almost as if I never sent it in to be repaired to be honest with you. I had 1 minor boost leak at BISS and I replaced it. System holds 35 psi no problem. I even capped the compressor nipple and ran no boost source to the gate, dangerous I know but I should at least build some kind of boost this way...nothing, 1-2 psi. I once again have to pull the turbo to check this gate, wich more than likely will not be going back on the car and if I find the springs shot or the old ones in there by mistake Im going to be pretty irate. I'm not saying that this is even the issue I'm hoping it is something totaly unrelated but all symptoms are exactly the same as every other time this gate has f*cked up. Its pretty sad that I have to say every other time too as One time is too many In my opinion. If this gate is messed up again that means it couldnt handle 5 min of idling, because thats all it got after I got it back and installed it on the car before the fuel line blew, I didnt even get to move the car out of the garage, it then was parked since september untill now when I put the braided fuel line in from tank to rail, fired it up, checked for leaks, went for drive, no boost...surprise surprise got 0 miles on it this time

Kind of random but have you checked the downpipe flex section? If it collapsed it can cause the same problems you are describing!

I can 100% say its not collapsed as I had no boost when the downpipe wasnt even connected so there was virtually no back pressure at all. Was pretty much open turbo and loud as hell

I should also add my vacuum reading is -21inhg as well. I would have to have a huge exhaust leak to not get any spool or a ton of big boost leaks. If it was boost leaks I would at least hear the turbo spooling, but there us nothing, basically my car drives and sounds like a NA with exhaust.

Does the MVS have a fire ring? If so, it it in the right way? My only EWG frustration in the past was due to this.
