So I got an oil change today and on my way up to school at night my bud was following me and called to ask if I put flamethrowers on my exhaust. I was like no why? He said multiple times a foot and a half blue/orange flame shot out of me exhaust pipe or I had a huge black puff of smoke blow out. This doesnt seem normal. Can anyone help? My oil temp and pressure seemed normal and so did my water temp. Thanks

I have seen a lot of DSMs and EVOs do this. I noticed you are running an aftermarket BOV. Do you have it recirculated or dumping to atmosphere? What boost levels are you running, I didnt see any sort of management?

Venting the BOV along makes it rich between shifts..... that shouldnt cause a flame to come out..... now really high boost with no management and a leak will cause a pretty nice size flame I must say.....

thats weird, because someone told me today that there was flames and smoke out of my exhaust. Is it because Im using a turbo xs type h bov which there is no way to recirulate, it comes with dsm adapter but non recirculated. I also put a profec and raised the boost to 14 lbs also the car sometimes dies after boost or gets low idle.

Do I check all piping and vaccum leaks as well?

It's normal, since you dont have a cat. It usually only happens when you are driving hard, especially on downshifts, but nonetheless it's normal. It could also happen if your O2 sensor is bad, or of the MAS is unplugged (you don't have any check engine lights, right? )

LOL, call me a ricer but I think this stuff is pretty cool. But can it damage the engine in any way. I know that nor rotaries nor boxter engines have problems with this but what about the 4g63?

why is everyone saying there must be a boost leak in order to do this. I still have a cat in my exhaust. I never saw it happen but someone told me he saw fire come out.

I may have boost leak because I turned the electronic boost controller I had hookd up off, and I was running only 7-8 psi originally I ran at least 10-11 stock boost which was raised to 14-16, I guess Ill have to check for leaks but I dont know where to start looking Ill check the pipes from the turbo to the throttle body, is there anything else I should check for leaks?

Yes I will ha ve mine tuned as well I just need my supporting mods, but Im looking if there reallly is a boost leak, if there was a leak, wouldnt I be not boosting? if there is minor leak I understand I would still be able to boost and all.. hmm

If you have a boost leak, you will have power loss. You can still boost but you won't feel the power due to the leak. If you plan to check for any leaks and that doesn't solve the issue then go and tune the car, running too rich can lead to more problems in the future.

Is always good to check for boost leaks. I do it almost every week during my days off

sorry for hijacking the thread, I checked for boost leaks today and seems as if everything is fine. The bov was alitte loosened but not enough to cause a leak, Im assumming, so I tightened everything up. I ran the car and it boost like 8-9 lbs, is this where Im supposed to be boosting stock?
also reason why I had bad idle and car kept dying because I had a vaccum nipple came off, I practically know where all the vaccum lines are because at least once, each nipple came out.

I could feel the car running extremely rich and the way the car runs on low rpms seems as if running pig rich as well. I will be install my aem wideband as soon as the o2 bung comes from ebay(still not here), and I will be install a boost gauge as well. I hate looking down to use my profec as a gauge. I will data log how rich the car is running.
