Wanted to know weather I should get 2 1/2" exhaust from roadrace professionally installed by roadrace or to by used 3" exhaust from a friend. The 3" has a hole in the flex pipe. He said he would pay for repair and we could use the shop he goes to and have it installed. There a few questions going through my mind. First off is 3" too much? I heard it can cause boost creep, also I don't exactly like the idea of a hole in the freaking pipe even if it can be repaired. Also the exhaust was for his fwd Eclipse and i have an AWD talon, not sure if it will fit or not, he didn't know either but said we could just ask the shop....

Well, first of all. You cant compare new to used, plus the used one has a hole :notgood: .
Second, if your going to *soup* your car up i would buy a "NEW" 3" exhaust from that place. But if your not going to take your car to like 400hp+++ 2.5 is cool. Could you give the prices on them both, or are they priced the same?

GL :talon:

Well, Roadrace 2 1/2" is $490 and another $40 with labor. My friend wants around $350 for his 3" he will pay for fixing the hole but i have to pay for install. He also wants my stock exhaust to put back on his eclipse. It doesn't sound great to me but I don't know how much better 3" is then 2 1/2". I use my car as a daily driver and I want some decent power, I probably won't go above 350, my main plan for the car is this...

- BOV (done)
- Intake
- Exhaust
- MBC
- 550's
- Fuel pump
- Bigger turbo (not sure which to get)
- FMIC
- AFC

If I am missing something terribly important please let me know.

the GST exhaust will not fit on your AWD. So that narrows things down. 350$ is a little much for a used exhaust + trade. I paid 450$ for my 3" SS turboback... new.

ALSO....just install it yourself; it's not hard at all.

You could also just go to an exhaust shop and have them custom bend you a 3" exhaust. A buddy of mine did this and it only costed him like 200-250.

yeah, that all that will take u over 350 ROFL

Well, why cant u just tell the roadrace guys to make it 3" . If not, i would check the state of the used exhaust ur friend has. Em i the only one thinking those roadrace guys are charging to much for a freaking 2.5' exhaust...wtf does it come with gold screws or what...

Anyways check if they make 3" or just look for other exhausts around the net bro, there millions of them maybe better and cheaper.

Yeah I figured it wouldn't fit.

So.. is there a large power difference between 2 1/2" and 3"? Noise difference as well? I really don't want to get pulled over and have to change exhaust too often... guess there isn't a lot I can do in Socal.

i've always been drooling over this exhaust:

1 bend @ downpipe, 1 bend @ rear section (45* angle) mandrel bent, 3" v-band clamps optional.

Curse you 2g guys and your super non-bendy exhausts. :D

here's the 4" version OMG

I wish i were enough of a ballah to have one of those on my car. :sneaky: :sneaky:

of course, a *good* stainless, mandrel bent 3" exhaust isn't exactly cheap either...

unless you are trying to to make some serious power, you really shouldn't see much of a difference between a 2.5" and a 3". 400 hp seems to be the generally accepted magic number for switching to a 3" exhaust. Of course, unlike NA cars, it doesn't rob power in turbo cars to go with a bigger exhaust than needed. As far as sound difference, it will sound deeper and louder (IMO sweet) but what muffler you throw on is going to have the final say in what it sounds like.
