Thunder Bay,
I'll be buying a new battery for my Talon tomorrow, and I was wondering if there are any specific batteries which other DSMers prefer, or is it pretty much just the more CCA the better? I've never bought a battery before and don't really know what to look for in one, all I know is I will not be buying one of those spiral cell/optima batteries because they're too expensive.

I have always loved the Optima red top batteries. They have more than enough CCA and they are as tough as nails. I can leave my car sitting for a month and it will still start up right away with no problems. They are worth the extra money you pay. ;)

Yeah, I second the Optima Red Top. No acid to spill, you can hold upside down if you want, besides I'm pretty sure just the red is good for a few tenths off your 1/4.

I have an Optima Yellowtop myself. I relocated my battery to the trunk for more space under the hood to put some goodies :D Its actually a Honda Civic battery, as thats the smallest that they make. It sits in the righthand corner of the trunk nicely and i have a nice aluminum box as well. Any Optima battery will serve you well, just be ready to fork out a little bit of cash. :talon:

the red top and yellow top are awsome batteries.top of the line.if your running alot of gadgets i would definatly go with one of these.if not you can use a inerstate, very good battery as well.

P>S> optima reds and yellows are made by interstate. :thumb:

there are 3 baterries by interstate, one is the OPtima discussed above

then there are 2 "standard" type battereis.

interstate, and insterstate megatron

The megatron has usually an extra 100-150 CCA for the same size and a better warranty, and jsut seems to handle abuse better in my opinion and experience so that is whatI always go with.
Had planty of opportunities to do some real world "abuse/testing" on my MGB... 35amp alternator, 60 amp system and 30 amps to run the car... Guess who changed bateries about every year until he went with a megatron which lasted 2.5 years?

However I have a Bosch brand battery in my TAlon that has been there since I bought the car back in 2000... and it is still working great despite several deep cycles.

Get a namebrand from a reputable company and you should be OK.

i bought an optima yellow top battery, they advertised decibels and it seemed better than my interstate battery.the lights didnt dim as much for $176.34 on 1/10/04 it went bad 12/5/06 they said optimas warranty does not cover a system, they dont like decibels but they said they would replace mine for a difference of 112.32 if you have a problem with the battery dont tell them you have a system. :dsm:
