So, I was pulling out of school today and noticed that my exhaust is twice as loud and obnoxious than it usually is. At first I kind of liked the sound and thought nothing of it. However, I took it on the highway when I got home and it gets so loud at 4,000 RPMS that it sounded like the exhaust or something was going to blow up! I also checked some things while in my driveway and while I was driving: Oil pressure is good. There's a rattling noise at idle only sometimes coming from the engine (can't say exactly where). The other thing was, when I checked the oil I noticed every time i checked the dip there was an air bubble or two on the dipstick. Now I KNOW that cannot be good, however I did check it right after I turned the car off, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not? I'll check it again later. But yeah, I'm lost right now, and don't know if I should shrug this off or not. The car was still pulling normally on the highway. However it was topping off at 4,000 RPMs and I was afraid to go past that. Help pleeeease!

Edit: One more thing: I just had Tsudo headers put on like 2 months ago. I did not install them, my buddy's dad who is a mechanic installed them. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

also check to make sure the flex section hasnt torn and got a hole in it.....I had that happen with my non turbo once....damn thing sounded like a motorcycle LOL

it's most likely an exhaust leak. the turbo manifold bolts were always a culprit for me, they would come loose over time and then i would lose boost and would be very loud. As for the bubbles in your oil, that is not bad at all. The oil pan is not completely filled with oil, there is some air in there and when it get's sloshed around by the spinning crank, i'm sure it will make a few bubbles but they should be nothing to work about.

If it is a blown header gasket or cracked header (which it sounds like) is it safe to drive around with it for a little while since I am still getting good pull and everything?

oh alright, I was just worried because I once heard that bubbles on your dip stick meant a blown head gasket. I knew that wasn't it but I just wanted to throw that in there.

Alright I just got under the car and looked at my exhaust. There are in fact two small holes in the exhaust and that's exactly where the rattling noise is coming from when I rev it up. It should be okay to drive with right?

you should cut the whole thing off and run free exhaust. Lots of hp:) But yeah it's not bubbles in your oil that is a bad headgasket, it's if you have frothy foamy oil where the coolant is mixing with it and being churned up in the engine.

oooh alright thanks man. And haha yeah I would love to cut the whole thing off but I don't think the po po would like it too much. My exhaust pipe is stock size. For the little power that I have I don't want to upgrade to a size that's going to make my car sound like a coffee can. I'm only guessing this but is the stock size 2"? Because people have been telling me to go two and a half inches. What do you guys think?

On a turboed car open exhaust is bearable and on the border line of streetable.( because I do it everyday with 3in open dp until I get my 3in catback ran back.)
On a non turbo car its so loud its completely out of the question to run open exhaust.

If its really bubbly, you may have overfilled the oil a tad bit which makes the crank make it all bubbly. But check every exhuast bolt and examine your exhaust to make sure it didn't crack or rust a hole.

i think you should sell it and buy a turbo dsm, or do the turbo conversion.... :thumb:
You can run the exhaust however you want, but just make sure you dont take off the
sound reasonators. On an n/t it will sound crappy and too loud if you remove the resonators.

I'm just curious but what are the two holes from?
