I've been fighting phantom knock for a while now, so that's led me to do some checking underneath the hood.

I had to replace my o2 sensor last week and while doing so, after I removed my heat shield I noticed my exhaust manifold had a 1-2cm crack between the #1 & #2 runners. My logger reads 0.8V at WOT.

Anyhow - I've been thinking that I should replace the cracked manifold and can't decide whether I should be looking into a 2G (ported or not) or a EVO III.

Which one would be better for my ported 14b?

The EVOIII manifold will flow more air in stock condition than the 2G manifold. That being said, either manifold can be ported out to a similar degree. A "full" port job on the 2G roughly equals a "mild" port job on the EVO. So, in the end, the EVO manifold will out flow the 2G but it all depends on the level of porting. Personally, I got a 2G manifold and will be doing my own porting...for $30 you can't go wrong. Good Luck!

the cheapest way to go, would be a 2g manifold unless we were talking O2 housings, then the EVO III housing would come to play.

Some people have to grind down a very small section of the edge of it so that it can clear to power steering bracket. It may or may not be a problem for you and took about 5 minutes with a dremel to do when we put my 2nd gen manifold on his 1st gen gsx.

Yes it is a direct fit, I fully ported my 2g manifold to flow at its maximum capacity. Umm on a 1g you have to grind down the drivers side of the manifold about 1cm, not hard...!

Also look to getting stainless steel gaskets, it makes alot easier to remount the manifold onto the turbo, since you will be porting (hope so) you must remove the ring inside and replace with a gasket ie: a stainless steel one.
