Okay, I was thinking about getting an Evo III exhaust manifold and o2 housing (both ported) before I install my egt gauge. Now I was wondering if I would need to correct anything. I have a 14b on there right now. What would I need to complete this project? Thanks.
 
Depending on where you purchase this from, I recommend Buschur myself but do what you like. You will want to replace all gaskets involved, and all bolts. (ex. mani, the 4 turbo bolts that go through the top of the mani, and get new o2 housing nuts, bolts & washers) The factory bolts become brittle and you don't want them to snap off on you. Plus Buschur drilled and tapped my EGT probe hole for me. Use alot of WD-40 when removing the old ones and anti-seize when installing the new ones. I did all of mine at the same time (Evo III Big 16g, ex. mani, and o2 housing) and I am kinda weird about my car. Some people will just say replace the ex. mani bolts, but I did it all (i'm paranoid). Oh yeah, the shop manual will tell you to remove the fans to do this, I removed the whole radiator. (more room)

If the bolts are fine and the nuts then reuse them and use the anti sieze stuff...like he said get all new gaskets..the one that goes to the turbine housing to the 02 housing..most of the time that gasket can be used again...the egt is so simple do it your self...save money..
 
Whats up fellas. Along the lines of saving money, (forgive me, I dont mean to steal this post but I figured it may save some space elsewhere) I am contemplating getting an evo exhaust mani to go along with my ported EVOIII w/34mm flapper. I pretty much exhausted my funds on the turbo but I do need an exhaust mani since my stock 1G unit is cracked badly. I have seen new 1G units in the 60-75 dollar range, the 2G in the 80-150, and the new evo at 180-200. My question is can I save some money and get a new 1G mani and just open up the ports to match the 2g or evo?? Thanks in advance for the help.

No, a 1g manifold is just a bad design when compared to the 2g and the EVO. If you try porting it to match up with a 2g or EVO it will crack soon after install or it may crack while you're porting it. Either buy a 2g and do the porting yourself to save some money because sending it out for porting would cost you as much in the end as an EVO, or get the EVO.
 
So bascally, I can still run my 14b with an Evo III exhaust manifold and o2 housing (that are both ported)? Or do I have to port my 14b as well?

The answer is yes, but porting your turbo is all the better for flow.

Yeah, porting your turbo while you have everything apart is a great idea. You should definately do some port work around the wastegate hole or send it out to someone who knows what to do and what you want.
 
The porting of days yore is behind us with the EVO castings. This is porting made easy, with carbide you will be done within 30 minutes. NO more hogging stuff out.

With regards to the last question, remove the majority of the ring and _only smooth_ any irregularities.
 
If you port the turbo you might want to get a 34mm flapper (avoid boost creep) Im setting up my flow with the evo lll 16g evo lll mani. evo lll o2 housing and topping it of with a sweet little fabricated 3" turbo back for the exhaust portion of my air flow.....

Going with the evolll set up is great money:ppower

You don not need a 34mm flapper on a 14b if you do the other porting. Just go around the outlet side and open up where the flapper arm hits the casting. This will allow your flapper to open up completely when it wants to. Also, do some small porting and polishing down the wastegate hole to improve flow. I have this done with my car and it works perfectly. I also ported the outlets on the turbo so that they were a closer match with the 2g (ported to EVO size) O2 housing I'm running. You will have to do some porting of the turbo at the inlet and even the outlet if you want to match up with your new manifold and O2 housing

The whole idea of porting and polishing is to improve airflow. Granted most carbide bits leave us with a smoother finish than the casting, but what about the irregularities in our work when it comes to the actual hole diameters? We spend all this time doing porting and we rarely get it truly round unless you've aready done a couple and know how the metal reacts. Gases flow differently out of an oval or an irregular circle than they do one that is near perfect. Maybe I'm just a stickler when it comes to these things or perhaps I think about the physics of this stuff too much, but I matched every outlet to inlet within 5/10,000ths of an inch including my metal gaskets and I've never had any problems with my car like boost creep.

On another note, have you done any research into the different angle that the EVO O2 housing has in comparison to the regular 1g and 2g O2 housings? I'm not an expert on this and I've only heard rumblings about it, but you may want to check into this. It would definately suck to think you're getting your car back together to find out you have to modify your DP so that it will work.
 
Like JBILLAKDSM said, the EVO o2 housing is a lot larger than the first gen o2 and angles differently for sure. Once installed it will be very close to the oil filter. This is the reason that tuners say to get the oil filter relocation kit to prevent your downpipe from damaging/heating up/ making filter changes hard.

Before my agp t3t4 kit..I had the evo 3 manifold and evo 3 02 housing and never had the problem your even speaking of..oil changes where just as easy as before..it wont damage your filter...if your worried about some heat..which will happen from the stock downpipe to...just wrap your downpipe with header wrap...

I notice you have a 2g, does that apply to 1g's as well?
 
This is probably one of those "based on your car" deals where it works for some people and not for others. The same thing happens when putting a 2g manifold on a 1g. Some people have to grind the one corner down a little and some don't, guess it just depends on what day your car was assembled or some crazy thing like that.

I'd invest in some good heat wrap in case you decide to do this and find you are going to run into problems. I'd hate to put all that money in my car and then go catch it on fire or destroy it with a loss in oil pressure.
