What do I need to install a new exhaust manifold? I have read up on everything and I think I know but I don't want to miss something. I need a new exhaust manifold gasket and a new turbo gasket right? Do I need to buy new bolts as well?
Oh yeah will a 6cm gasket be a restriction on an unported evo3 16g?
Thanks

exhaust manifold gaskets, and bolts. Some new stainless steel bolts would be nice..

unported evo3 16g still has a 7cm2 gasket...therefore you shouldnt be using a 6cm2 gasket.

did you get the evo3 mani ported to match the 7cm gasket?

You need a 7cm gasket. And it would be nice to get the ring that goes between the turbo and the manifold. RRE sells them for $8 or so. It will keep your gaskets from blowing out. And they WILL blow out if you don't have the ring in there.

Do you mean the turbo inlet flange? Is that the ring you are talking about? The manifold has no porting at all. Do I also need the exhaust manifold flange?

Not yet, at least. All of my gaskets have eventually cracked, even the thick stainless steel "spacers." Those things can't really be called gaskets since they don't compress at all. I cracked one damn good. The other one was well on its way. It was an oval by the time I was done with it. Some of it was intruding into the exhaust stream.

Things are so much better with that little $8 ring.

I ported the turbo and manifold so that the inner diameters of each of them was the same size as the ring. Now I have a perfect cylinder leading to the turbo inlet. And no threat of blowing out a gasket.

Okay I took the old manifold off and I know what ring you are talking about now, but just like always something went wrong. I broke one of the bolts the holds the manifold to the turbo in half. Which leaves half of it still in the turbo and very tightly I might add  I'm not going to be doing anything untill I get that thing out. It was wierd though because all the other bolts didn't have any thread untill the last inch or so and the one that broke had thread for about half an inch and then it was blank and then had thread the last inch like the rest. It broke right where the top set of threads turned into the smooth part of the bolt. I think it was a screw up when they made it. kinda wierd

What exactly are you doing? I was under the impression that you were installing an unported Evo III 16G and an unported Evo III exhaust manifold at the same time. Is that correct?

The 6cm ring that came stock on the car will not work with the Evo III turbo. You need to get one from RRE.

Broken bolts are not uncommon, unfortunately. Order yourself a new one. And torque the bolts correctly.

oh no, I'm sorry it looks like I left off manifold in my first post. I'm just installing the evo manifold. sorry bout that. It won't be a problem to use the ring again since I'm using the stock turbo will it? I don't think it matters but I have an auto so the stock turbo is the 13g. I think I'm going to wait to install the manifold untill I get a 14b though.

You actually said this "Oh yeah will a 6cm gasket be a restriction on an unported evo3 16g?" And Evo III 16G is a turbo. That is what confused me.

Anyway, you can't really install this manifold with a 13G turbo. The 13g (automatic turbo, right?) has an offset exhaust inlet as compared to the 6cm housing on a 14B or the 7cm housing on a 16G.

Don't use the ring unless you have a matching Evo III 16G and Evo III manifold. Sorry to steer you down that path. You don't have that option.

So can I use a 14b with no problems or should I just wait and buy the evo3 16g turbo? I could run the evo3 turbo on my stock fuel system for awhile as long as I keep the boost low right?
