OK so I got the new exhaust delivered yesterday, I got my old cracked 1G mani removed only to find out that the previous owner did not put the exhaust gasket ring back in it. I was wondering where I can get this from, and do I need to go to a dealer?

Should I just get the OEM exhaust and turbo gaskets from the dealer? I had some links earlier to a site that sold copper gaskets but lost the link when the power went out earlier in the day.

Thanks.

Gasket ring? Are you referring to the gasket between the head/manifold or between the o2 housing and downpipe or manifold/turbo? You cant get shit for EVOs at the local places Oreillys autozone etc. Tried ordering a factory mani waited 2 months it showed up and was an OEM 2g and they told me they never made one aftermarket OEM replacement for the EVO

Yes I was talking about the ring between manifold & turbo, I can't wait to get this thing on the cracks were huge on the bottom half of my old manifold. dsmfa9nutter thanks for the link that was the exact page I was hoping to see. I won't sweat the ring then!

It looks like the previous gasket was a little restrictive.

I assume the white around the crack etc. was from the exhaust leaking?

i got my evo3 manifold ported and eliminated the ring...i love the way my turbo spools faster now. i also reused a stock turbo gasket, works fine! i would not go with a stainless steel gasket...they tend to crack after a while.

Thanks, I think eventually I will get the manifold ported, right now I am at the troubleshooting stage as I just picked up the car. I thnink all the cracks in the manifold might have been what was causing my boost issues. ;)

Still got that thing downstairs. A fairly good measuring tool when porting smaller turbos. And it's only $7.

Unless you are going to port the step in the manifold collector/turbine inlet I would recommend using the sealing ring. It will protect the gasket as well as creating less turbulence of the exhaust gases.

+1, Just get the sealing ring.

I say DO NOT port your 16g. I've run them ported so that there's no step for where the seal ring went with a 2g manifold which was opened up to match. And I've run one with my other option which involves no porting at all. And I noticed NO difference! ZERO! Spool was the same or worse with the ported setup. It was hard to really see much of a difference in spool so I'll leave it as the spool was the same. I saw 36lb/min at 22 psi with my setup with a ported manifold/housing and I saw 36lb/min after with the same setup boost and NO porting using my other technique. The other technique is outlined here: Don't port your 16g.

I was actually a little angry that I has spent literally days porting the 2g manifold and turbine housing. If you have a 2g manifold dont waste your time, do the above mod instead. If you have an evo3 exhaust manifold. Buy the damn 7cm^2 seal ring. You'll have a smooth transition which otherwise would take hours and hours to make with a grinder. Leave your grinding time and energy for the wastegate. Those who felt a gain in their 14b or 16g turbo setup after porting never used a seal ring. Their hours of work paid them however much a seal ring costs. . . or less, what my above mod costs. A big :notgood: for all your effort because there's no benefit in performance over a properly sealed transition.

. . . Nevermind the stress you take off of your turbo gasket by sealing it properly.

No step here.
