I have an exhaust leak at the flex pipe, it’s not joined any longer.

What is the cost effective fix for this? Just purchased this car a few days ago and I believe this is the original exhaust. Bolts/nuts are extremely rusty.

Am I looking at just replacing a piece of this exhaust or the entire exhaust headed back to the cat?

I’m thinking replacing the entire section might be the way to go with this.

Happened to my 1g. Left side engine mount was allowing the engine to sag, putting pressure on the flex section and it eventually let go. I purchased a new flex section, removed the downpipe, and cut out the old. Reinstalled each side of the downpipe and tack welded the new flex section in place to make sure it aligned proper, then removed the downpipe and welded it up.

I later replaced the engine mount and had to do the whole process over again because now the engine was pulling UP on the flex.

Edit: An exhaust shop could probably fix you up if you don't have access to a welder!

I actually have motor and trans mounts on the way right now, which are hopefully the correct ones. The front transmission mount is not even connected anymore in the bushing, so that make sense with the movement.

I have a welder in my shop. Going to install the new mounts first, then add in a new flex pipe after I measure the exhaust, or like you said, take it to an exhaust shop and have them fix it.

My local shop had issues finding new mounts. Who did you go with? Mine had a mot of movement when in 2nd gear when you get off the gas at all. The mounts go replaced but still have the issue a lot. Local shop said it’s the low quality of aftermarket mounts.
