i have a 99 GST and i just got a 3in APEXi N1 downpipe and a 3in APEXi N1 exhaust system. i was able to instal the d.p. and the cat-back with no problems but the friggin axle back part doesn't fit right. thats the whole pride part to show that you have a nice exhaust and it doesn't fit. does it go in the exact location the stock part was, or does it go underneath the rear brace instead of over it?

yeah the n1 goes under the rear axle not over it like the oem. it would be pretty obvious where to put it because the muffler hangs in the same location as the oem.

yah most of the aftermarket catbacks go over the rear axle, mainly because they are not 3inch and can fit going over it, however the apexi is a true 3inch so i think thats why they make is to go under so that it actually fits

Isn't a "true" 3" system one that consists of no reducers or resonators? I don't have any Apexi parts on my car but I'm pretty sure the N1 catback has resonators. Although resonators don't really affect performance so dunno.

the resonator is just suppossed to quite the car down a little, i have looked through one before and there is really nothing in it, so whoever said the resonator is just as restrictive as a cat is a moron

A resonator is like a non baffled muffler. Like the silencer on a gun it's just a tube surrounded by a larger tube with sound baffling material between them and holes in the inner tube.

i imagine it should go underneath the axle parts..cause i had a catback(not a 3 inch) and the last bend actually rubbed the underbody causing the undercaoting(that black stuff) to melt..but i canged the muffler now and it fits much much better..so i really think urs would go underneath causaes theres like no room above the axle

Your question has already been answered early in the post.

Off topic, but since it was brought up, the Apexi N1 isn't a true 3 in exhaust.
Yes the piping is, but there is a reducer in the can its self. The reducer is about halfway inside the can. The silencer's tip(end you stick in first) is made to fit into the reducer snuggly. I forget the size but I can look it up for you(still have the pics) or you can just measure the tip(end you stick in first) of the silencer. If you do a search, I posted pics of it as well as a diagram of the inner can its self.
Just a bit of info....and yes I own one.

So you are telling us that a straight through design with NO resonator is going to flow the exact same as one with a resonator. Anything used to slowdown or distort the exhaust flow/sound is going to put some sort pinch on the HP the exhaust is making. I was just point out that a cat and a resonator will make a difference, but not so much of one that it needs to be discuss to the point of calling someone a moron.

If you want to be the dyno whore and do a before and after to go right ahead. The performance loss between any of these is not adequate enough to worry about in a 3" system.

if you go over the axle with 3 inch exhaust...ive been told youve got to smash in the spare tire compartment with a hammer a little bit....i think thats better then scraping the crap outa ur exhaust...

Mine hangs on the bottom and I have a 1.5 inch drop. If you go lower than 2.0 inches of drop than I suggest this procedure I have quoted.

thank you!! someone listens to me....are you really gonna notice a difference in air flow if you go over the back axle? i really doubt it its prob a fraction of a hp...if that...is your exhaust gonna sound like crap when u have a hole in ur pipe?..probably...i dont kno what my plans are for lowering my car but i think my exhaust i get will definitely go over the axle...better safe then sorry..
