Saskatoon,
everyone has seen 2 fast 2 furious and I was wondering how the F do their exhausts shoot colored flames? computer? kit? How? and where can I find this? I know its rice. But everyone must admit when cooked just right, rice can be nice.

i heard its some sort of ignition kit you can buy for the car. not sure who makes it, but i think when reving, at a certain point, it ignites particles of fuel left in the exhaust..... but what do i know, dont quote me on that

I took the cat off my evo and it did this in 2nd 3rd and 4th gear on its own

RX7's and RX8's also do this when u remove the cat

OR you can buy a kit that pushes propain out your exhaust with igniters at the tips..

High performance cars will shoot fire on their own if set up correctly (i expect my talon will be shootin flames this summer ;)

i thought you meant revving at the line. a lot of manual cars can through flames if driven really well, i've seen those races on tv . flames coming out through turns while shifting.

I always thought that was unburned fuel in the exhaust pipe.

yep, thats all it is

un burnt fuel, when your running a high performance car, you dump a lot of fuel, not only to burn, but also to cool the cylenders & prevent detonation

LOL what you saw on F&F is done with computers, the color and the flame. Yes there are kits out there, depending on how big you want your flames would depend on if you would use a gas kit or a propane kit. There are a few led sled guys here that with the propane will shoot about 15 foot flames out the back at car shows, but it is not like it does on the movies, it is a huge as flame, not somethin that looks like it came out of a jet

Yup, it's true. Mine shoots a few flames everyday I drive it. It looks fu**in awesome at night. :thumb: Just by having a little unburnt fuel in the exhause and a 3" turbo-back w/ no cat, you should be able to get flames. The only downside is, for the most part, they are uncontrolable. In 2F2F, they used a computer for the effect. LOL, and I thought it was ###. Real exhaust flames don't look like that. I am going to put a plug in my exhaust soon to see if I can control it. I tried it last year, but I didnt have enough unburnt fuel. I have since done fuel mods and now I know I do, so I'll give it a try. :dsm:

P.S. And yes they do make kits and they are very expensive for what it is. Its a plug, and coil and an ignition pack that kills spark to the motor and lets fuel flow, garunteeing LOTS of unburnt fuel. I think they run about $250 or $300. :dsm:

You can drill a hole into your exhuast and tap a spark plug that is wired to a push-button and then your battery. When you push the button the spark plug will produce a spark which will light the exhuast gases and produce a flame. I have never attempted this, just saw this info on another forum. Sounds logical to me.

wellw hat he is talking about is ver y long lasting flames, like where you could count a full 2 seconds or more. Hell, mine blast a small flame in between shifts

yeah but doing something like that yourself sounds very dangerous. what if there was too much unburnt fuel and instead of going out your exhaust it started going in... sounds dangerous

what about the colors? perhaps other gases than propane? ie. argon burns blue.

Different gases, as you suspected.

LOL the movie was all done with computers, look at the flames and tell me there is a gas that burns those colors, just like that

In a magazine article I read, it was said they injected the proper gases into the tailpipe and had some sort of sparking mechanism.

Also, gases CAN burn different colors. If you'd ever seen an alcohol fire, or an F1 fire, you'd know. Much like solids in pyrotechnics can affect the color.

expect a ticket too when caught by the police.

You need a Model T coil to fire the plug.

Damn, I wish I would have payed attention in chemistry now.:| There are certain powders that burn different colors, none of them harmful when burned. In chemistry class in highschool we burned like 11 different powders that all turned a different color when set fire. We had red, blue, teal, green, orange, gold, white, etc. Ill try to a find a link and maybe some pictures.

I personally have done this and I did research it first. It's not as dangerous as it sounds. I did everything that bOOstd GSX said and you have to keep your RPM's high to keep the flames going out instead of in. If I remember correctly they said about 5K. And a properly tuned car shouldnt have too much unburnt fuel. If you do everything bOOstd GSX said to do and get a big coil, and if you have enough unburnt fuel, you'll get controlable flames. :thumb:

I wouldnt say 'controlable', more so 1 in every 10 revs past 5000-6000rpms. :p
