Excessive Clutch Pressure Problem

I rebuilt my 2g awd, got it back in and all was good. Right now the clutch pressure progressivly gets worse. If I open the bleeder valve and allow a little fluid to release it works well for a while then the pressure rebuilds. I replaced the slave with a new one after reinstalling the trans. Is there a difference between a fwd and awd slave? also, it might be unrelated but the car gets idle surge, the surge doesn't start until the clutch starts building pressure it seems..... might be unrelated, I actually don't see how it would be related but it is strange hte two happening at the same time.

When the pressure builds and clutch pedal load/effort is high, is the release fork shifted all the way to the pass side. Like it's loading it?

A.If yes, then I'd say two things. Either the pedal is adjusted wrong, causing pedal pump up or the accumilator/restrictor (or what ever it's called on a 2g) is plugged or bad.

B.If no, then I'd say it's merely the accumilator/restrictor plugged.


At any point, can you push the slave rod into the body of the slave cylinder?

If no, then the same assesment as A. above.

If yes, you have me baffled. Unless you are on the ragged edge of the pedal adjustment. I'll have to think it over more.
 
the release is all the way to the pass side, the cylinder dont move by hand, when i reinstalled the slave i had to bleed some fluid in order for it to move back in, no matter how much oressure i pushed it would not move. I do have to move the pedal position a bit but didnt want to do so until the pressure issue is correct. What is the accumulator/restrictor? is that the unit that bolts onto the trans?

You've got pedal pump up going on. Set your pedal up per the manual. Then recheck the slave cylinder.

Adjust the rod on the master, there is really nothing you can do on the slave. I used to get that when I replaced my master. There is a certain point where the pressure will build, and then you start turning the shaft counter clock wise as if you were in the seat facing it (this will releive the pressure to a certain point). Then from there, repump your clutch until it get's tight again, then turn the shaft some more. You keep doing this until the pedal get's really loose and spongy. From there your in the inbetween of optimal factory pedal free play, engagement and disengagment. Just play with the shaft until it's correct where there is barely any free play, but when pumping up the clutch, it doesn't build tension. Let me know if that works for you!

I fixed it last week, i allowed for 1/2" of freeplay and havent had an issue since..... thanks guys
