I was reading some older forums on this site and came across one that mentioned the evo8 intercooler being good for 400+ whp, and then i searched for some evo 8 forums and found people selling them for cheap,... so i was wondering, does anyone have the numbers, (or their best guess) on what other evo parts i could use in my car would hold,... ie will their pistons work on our block, and how much more hp can they hold than a turbo 6 bolt engine's pistons,.... also are some parts better flowing on the evo 8?

these are what i was looking at:
pistons (8.8 compression right? thats a full cr over my 7.8 right)
rods
crank? (im aware that shep runs the "stock" crank(even tho its the lightweight one, he still calls it stock), but who knows maybe this is lighter or something)
heads (valves, springs, cams)
injectors (i know they are 580cc, basically how much for them?)
fuel pump (whats the lph?)
anything else? i know their exaust and intake are really different from ours, thats why we can only really use the core for the intercooler, but if anything comes across your mind, just post it here,....also if you know the price i should expect to pay for any of these, that would be great

i dont know how you could mistake this for "bench racing" but it isnt in any way, so please,... dont close this thread for being a benched race

edit: did some searching and only found a lot of info, but no definate answers on heads and internals being interchangeable,.... i found some answers like, look at the engine bay, they are different engines,... but that isnt entirely true, so I dont believe it,....

I personally would not use an EVO 8 intercooler...its better than the sidemount, but its not as good as some of the cores you can get on eBay or from any of the site vendors. You can find huge bar and plate cores on eBay for like $200-230 shipped brand new, and they can support larger turbos than the EVO.

As for the internals, I don't know if they are interchangeable or not. The problem I see with that is availibility...you would be picking up used parts, or expensive new parts. Buschur used to sell Weisco pistons for $300, I think they are bumped up to $350 now..I've found eagle rods for $200, and you can do what you like to your crank at a local machine shop for whatever price they charge. I would rather pick exactly what I like brand new than try used EVO parts.

The pump...I'm not sure about, it could work as far as I know...just know that there are brand new Walbros online for like $90 shipped for either a 190 or a 255. If you can get the EVO ones for cheap, its better than stock.

im working with a tight budget, and really right now as far as internals are conserned im looking at them for the far future, at which point in time evo internals shouldnt be hard to find, as far as the intercooler goes, after about 5 minutes of searching i found one for 150, so im sure i could get one for 100, and the bulk of the price for those would be custom piping due to the fact that theres like no way to get the piping to come to the front short of the stock upper intercooler piping extended, and going all the way around the radiator for the lower intercooler piping.....as for the fuel pump, your probably right, but right now im looking at either buying a 3000gt fuel pump (vr4) used for like 30 bucks, or an evo8, depending on price and what flows more,... (if the evo will cost like 10 bucks more but flow like 150lph vs like 130 for the 3kgt, id get the evo)

i read somewhere that the evo 8 turbo is flipped, but im not sure if that guy was right, cuz i looked on the mitsu site the other night, and they had a pic of their turbo, and it didnt look flipped,... then tonight i found a few evo 8 forums where people were selling their turbos, most of them were already sold, but the price range was 200-300 bucks, for a twin scroll turbo,.... is anyone posative that the evo 8 turbo will or will not work?

i doubt it, i believe their turbos are "backwards", or at least thats what ive heard... aka turbine housing on the wrong side, aka 02 housing backwards...
