So the question is could i use a evo8 or 9 manifold. ive been reading some people say hell no you cant but some say you could. some guy put a evo8 exhaust manifold with evo turbo on his dsm. the exhaust manifold bolted on to the 2g head but to turn the turbo 180 he had a custom flange in between the exhaust manifold and turbo to rotate it. i want to do the same but with a evo 9 turbo. help would be good and i know this has been going on for some time. sorry if i brong it up aging:p

I will say now I am no expert with this but from the knowledge I have done through small research. I thought that the turbo problems were more in the area of fitment of space under the hood of the DSM. Its always possible to come up with a custom design to get it in. The manifold is a different story. You have to keep in mind the engine bay is opposite of what we have. This causes the TB side of the manifold to be on the right side instead of the left like ours. You could somehow cut the end of the evo TB off and weld a plate there and somehow get it to attach to the other side. I don't think it would be worth the hassle.

The placement of the turbo is too far to the driver's side of the car for use on a DSM. Sure you could use one, but you'd need a forward-facing oil filter housing, ditch your power steering, and relocate the alternator.

This would also mean that the turbo you're using would have the inlet on the driver's side of the car, so you'd need to move your MAS harness to the driver's side and do something custom for the intake pipe.

Basically it's going to be a huge pain in the ass; definitely would not yield gains worthy of the amount of work you'd be putting into the project, which is the reason you see low-mileage Evo VIII and IX 16G's selling for $100.

WOW I didn't know they sold that cheap glad I got $400 for my used Evo IX turbo!

i am in the process of putting an evo 8 manifold and turbo onto my 1g. Do to contruary belief i am going to be able to keep my powersteering and able to use my stock radiator. I will have to use the alt relocate kit and run a different mas set up but other than that it is working out nicley. Im in the process of documenting the whole thing some we dsmer's can get this matter cleared up once and for all. I know im a newbie to the site but have been fabbing and a mechanic for years now and if anyone is interested i may be making up a kit to sell for this problem that no one with real knowledge as tackled before. Hope to have some pics for ya in a week or to when i get my flange built the holiday is putting a damper on it thou.

The Evo IX 16G's have a 10.5 turbine housing, which is actually a desirable upgrade for an Evo VIII and is also a popular turbo to be upgraded to the 20G compressor. They pull a premium one week before race wars. :D

so where's your pictures of your fab work?
