If you had a chose what car would you get, EVO 8(271HP) or STI(300HP), which one do you think is more relaible, pro's& cons

car and driver did a test on those two cars and the sti had a faster top speed but the evo was better in every other comparison they even whigh within 10 pounds of each other!!
hope that helps

I was going to buy an sti the end of last year and decided not too. I took the $10k I was going to use for a down payment and put it into revitalizing my talon. I was going for the sti for the simple reason of more power than the VIII. Ive lost interest since then but sti stock is 300 hp and 300 tq @ 14psi. The VIII stock is 276 hp and I think 284 tq @ 18psi. Sti also has ic sprayer and driver adjustable center diff, but radio is optional where the VIII has a radio but rear wing is optional. I was really looking for best bang for the buck with no mods. I have seen both at the dragstip stock and sti was 13.230-13.50 1/4 mile where the VIII was13.65-14.00 1/4 mile.

I would go Evolution, they have a great history of being good cars. Plus, I've also heard Subaru's have been having problems with transmissions.

With minor upgrades to a Evolution I think it'd beat or at least match a STi. I'd have more faith in a mitsubishi than a subaru.

Yes, it was the WRX tranny that had horror problems. The STi's has been very good. It is one of the many shining points of the US spec STi.

I use to think the STi OWNED the EVO 8 but now that I seen what AMS has done to their EVO 8, 550+whp on the stock block OMG "STi who???" It may beat EVO 8 out of the factory but there are a couple of EVO 8's in my area runnin 11s stock turbo and like $2500 in mods. I highly doubt the STi block can come close to 550whp+ and handle it like the EVO 8 can.

Not everyone is AMS and im sure it will take a lot to get the 550+ whp, but the fact that its possible is more than enough to convince me to get an EVO 8 over a STi ANYDAY. Its funny I have been at AMS and i see EVO 8 owners that trade in their STi to get EVOs because they cant compete  Not dissin the STi its a nice car but

STi < EVO 8 > ALL

Bushur has made some good #'s. I have recently driven in a one of the 580kit evos. It was astounding.

Ive heard the suby tranny problem didnt make it to the sti. Totally differant tranny that the wrx.

Yeah same thing I heard as well.Although I haven't seen an Evo run in person yet, I have seen the Sti in person, and I must say it is really just amazing, really quick off the line with superb response, stock too.(Plus on paper the sti can hit the 0-60 mark quicker than the evo, so I can assume the nice accel. I seen from the sti would be extremely close, but not matched by the evo)
You can be just as quick as an Sti with probably just one good mod to the Evo, maybe two.Yet, once you throw on one or two mods to the sti its going to be the quicker car again, so the sti will always have a step up on you.

Plus the tq on the Evo is 273 not 284
with 271 horses

compared to 300 and 300 with the sti

So I would have to go with the sti, hands down.

Nevermind the fact that STi is a 2.5 liter and the Evo is 2.0

If you took the 2 and were (if possible) able to put the SAME exact mods on the 2 the STi is going to produce a better car. The displacement is there to make more power mod for mod. Again, this is if you can match the 2 setups mod for mod.

yes but you have to remember your not comparing stock to stock the sti is an upgraded version of the wrx now compare the wrx and the evo or better yet compare that new evo thats supposed to come out to the sti and post the results.

ok i dont know what you guys have seen, but every single review or comparason i have seen the evo beats the sti in the 1/4 mile, you may seen diff times at the track but thats prolly driver related, get a pro driver and im pretty sure the sti would go down

1. This should be in a HangOut Forum
2. There was a HUGH thread about the same subject a few months ago when both cars were availble to the public. Use the search Function next time.
3. I would still take an STi because it has a great 6-spd, it is only boost 14psi stock $50 MBC raise that it to 18psi and you are set, the interior is nicer than the EVO, no replacement for displacment 2.5L>2.0L, and it adjustable LSD control thing kicks a$$.

If it was between the STi and EVO MR i would definetly take the EVO MR because it has everything the STi has now + the 4G63 :dsm:

boooo

you might as well work that BOTH ways then and compare the baseline lancer to the wrx then :thumbdown

RedGS is right.

We had this discussion awhile ago and i turned into the same comparison fest.

the STi is an upgraded version of the wrx which is an upgraded version of the impreza rs
the evo is an upgraded version of the lancer oz which is an upgrade from the base model lancer

LOL, I didn't mean to be ignorant, but what I meant was practically all models are upgrades from something, so it would be unfair to compare the evo to wrx, when debating if it is better than the sti or not.

As for the other guy that posted you can find the specs here http://www.import-heaven.net/specs.shtml :thumb:

well my point was that youre not gonna compare a mustang gt to a z28 camaro just like you shouldnt compare the evo to the sti. but yes the sti out performs the evo, but the evo's engine is stronger than the sti's, hell that one kid blew his doing 18 psi during a lean condition. Now if you were to compare the evo mr to the sti the mr would win hands down. :thumb: But seriously if i had enough money for a evo i would turn to a different manufacturer. ie: toyota and buy an mk4 tt 6spd :D

my friend has a EVO, all he has done to it is a Buschur racing exhaust and a boost controller set at 19 psi. When he went to the track he was able to pull 12.60's. But he is probably one of the best drivers i have seen.
