Here's the backround. I called up turbochargers.com to see if I could get the 2g total kit, but with an MHI EVO III 16G ported and/or clipped. The guys proceeds to tell me to not even worry about that and just get the EVO GT. His words were, "Beleive me, it's what you want." So I'm like, OK, but what about all of the reliability issues and whatnot that people claim to have on he forums (even though I'm not sure how many there are at this point anymore). He says something like, "Forget them, I've been in this business for 40 years and know what I'm talkin' about." He wasn't cocky or anything, just very sure of himself. So now I'm rethinking things.

My REAL problem with the GT isn't all that reliability stuff. I plan on taking care of it and installing correctly. My problem is the 34mm flapper. On the MHI EVO 16G's, it causes the wastegate to come open for reasons we already know.

So do you EVO III GT guys have a problem with that? Do you get boost creep, spikes, or fall-off up top? How much boost have you gone on that little sucker. Did you have to add washers at all to keep the wastegate closed?

I do have a full 3inch turbo back O2 housing eliminator on my car if that helps you guys get where I'm coming from.

Thanks!

I happen to have a real MHI Big 16G with a 34mm wastegate flapper installed by Forced Performance in the exhaust housing they ported. I'm currently runing 20 psi and don't seem to have any problems with the flapper blowing open, creep, spikes, etc.

Even though its the wrong turbo, I DO appreciate your input, Steve. Any mods to that wastegate?

Only the porting and installing the 34mm flapper that FP did. The WGA is a stock one that came with the turbo. It's mated to a EVO III O2 housing that I ported to match FP's work.

I have the booster snail you speak of. I love the thing and it has the 34mm flapper. I have only ran it to 15 psi. I have a 3'' turbo back with a tubular o2 and the gt supposedly comes ported, (it does but it is cast that way and not port and palished by hand). I have had no boost problems and cant wait till I turn it up to 20 psi.

But when I have my silencer in it will run 12 psi up top, so it will spike at 15 and fall to 12.

But will the silencer out it spools to 15 psi and stays.

Bought the evo316g from extremepsi last summer, had it ported and 34mm flapper install by AMS and currently one year later, run ~27 psi with profec b spec 2 and no problems, sometimes around town i disconnect the boost controller and just run the boost line straight into the wastegate, shoots right to 11 psi and holds, NO spikes, NO creep. great turbo that you can ACTUALLY have fun with and boost with on the street, this thing all ported and flappered, along with evo3 o2 housing ported= very quick spool
