Searched and cannot find the answer I'm looking for. When running an EVO VIII FP is there any reason to run an EVO VIII FPR? I saw someone post they were going to test this but never saw any answer to it.
 
I don't have a definite answer for this but I don't think the evo FPR would be an improvement and I've heard that they are actually more or less the same as DSM FPRs.

The evo uses two levels of voltage based on load to control fuel pump output.

I knew the evo ECU help by lowering voltage at idle, but I thought the FPR was better then the 2g. Both have the same stock fuel pressure, but the evo's fuel pump flows more. That's why I'm wondering if it's better or not.

Changing the voltage to the fuel pump is Mitsubishi's way to work around FPR overrun. Lowering the voltage reduces the flow rate to keep the regulator working correctly.

They did the same thing on the TT versions of the 3000GT and Stealth.

I have a non rewired evo9 pump in my car and while I believe that it should be used with a AFPR I have not seen any ill effects at this point, I believe if I rewired it that I would overrun at idle and low throttle.

Does this mean it does not require a rewire kit?
On any evo? I would assume not but I've only spent a little time on their boards. On a DSM, you will flow more if you rewire but you will also probably overrun so without a AFPR I would skip rewiring until you get to the point where you are running fairly close to the limits of the pump as is or when you have the money sitting around for an AFPR and nothing better to do with it.
 
Also the IX's flow more then the VIII's. And the VIII's have a pressure release valve.
