Hi, I know this sound weird, but here in Peru is very hard to find a 2g Eclipse, mine is a 2g gst, my crankshaft got a wear (i think it is the translation to from spanish to english) and I broke a main bearing.

Getting a used 7 bolt crankshaft from a 2g Eclipse it is impossible, but a friend has a crankshaft from an Evo 8. I wanna know if this will fit on my motor, or I would go to repair my crankshaft?

Doing my research I found that I only can polish it at 0.010 inch without problem (sorry but i wanna be really sure before doing it)

thanks

How would I be able to tell which bearings I need?

When you get the engine apart, the center main bearing (thrust bearing) will either be one whole piece (standard thrust) or it will be the same thing as the rest of the main bearings with two half moon thrust washers on each side of it (split thrust). The split thrust is the same design as the EVO and is a VERY strong engine for stock and will not crank walk like the notorious 95-98.5 7 bolts with the standard thrust bearings.

It depends on the block not the crank. If the block had a non-split thrust bearing originally, that is what you must use unless you have the block specially machined. Personally I wouldn't risk doing any machining on something as critical as the thrust bearing is to engine longevity, unless I was VERY sure of what needed done and was confident the machinist would do it correctly.

Thanks for the info guys! I have a local machine shop and a local DSM shop I can talk to if I decide to go this route. I found a crank fro $100, so it could be worth a try.

damn guys!! i envy you ewoevo LOL, here are offering me the evo crankshaft for $500

for delta448: the non-split thrust bearing depend of the block or from the crankshaft??

and between an evo crankshaft or a 2g crankshaft (mine is 97) which one is better??

Oh, something I didn't think about; since the EVO engine is 180 degrees out from ours, does this make a difference? Or can you just install the crank in a 2G like the stock one and it will fit, provided you have the appropriate bearings? Also, from what I found, the EVO crank uses a 360 degree thrust bearing.

Yes it will be fine...and all Evo's 4-9 are split thrust. 1-3 are standard thrust

Its this simple. A 7 bolt crank is a 7 bolt crank, period. If you have a 7 bolt ANY 7 bolt crank will work, so long you use the proper main bearings that your engine was designed for. Any and every DSM 7 bolt up until mid 98 had a standard thrust bearing, 98.5-99 had split thrust like evo. EVO 1-3 is the same engine design and the 95-98.5 DSM 7 bolts (standard thrust) EVO 4-9 is the same crank, just with the split thrust bearings. Its all in the block. :thumb:

Ahhhh, I got it now. I'll check my manufacture date, but back it up with what is in the block when I rebuild. Thanks:thumb:
