this may come off as a retarded question. but i wanna know, could the evo 9 4g63 bolt up to the 420a tranny? i know the swap will fit into a 2g dsm. but i dont want to go through the hassle of converting to awd. if not, what suggestions do you have for me? im open to all ideas that dont involve me gettin rid of my car. its a rs but i would hate to part with my car. i want more power but dont want the ol' 420a. :hmm:

The trannys wont bolt up.

Don't even bother swapping a 4g63 in a 2g rs or gs. It's really not worth it due to all the fabrication you would have to do. You're better off just buying a gst or a gsx.

^^
what he said

ive had my 420a for about 4 years now. I love my esi, but its just too impractical to turbo a 420a or swap in a 4g63 when you can just buy a whole new car that has more aftermarket support (which i may be doing by the start of summer -- i NEED turbo/awd for once!)

besides gsx's/tsx's are getting harder to find as the days go by so im looking to get on that asap

and to answer the question - they dont bolt up

ive seen a rs with a 6-bolt set up in it. the dude said it didnt take much fab work. i really wanna do a 4g63 swap. i just cant decide which set up would be better. 6/7 bolt. i want about 600hp. and about the swapping of tranny's which tranny would i use to not have awd?

You would just lock the rear wheels of the evo tranny. Thats what I did, I'm in the process of doing an evo VI tranny swap on my 420a.

It would be easier to swap the evo VI-IX 4g63, than the evo I-III or an eclipse 4g63. But either one are more work than its worth. You could buy a gst/x for cheaper than what it would cost you to do the swap.

The whole swap will cost you well over $6k and for that price you could keep your car and buy a gsx or gst. If you look at the engine bays of a rs and gs compared to a gst and gsx everything is basically mirrored. The cam gears and trans are on opposite sides. The evo 4g63 is probably better for the swap as the cam gears/trans are on the same side as in the 420a. It comes down more to the point of do you really wanna spend the same amount of money on your car for it to be basically a stock gst opposed to spending that money on a gsx or gst and having money left over to do maintence/mods whatever and still keep your current car.

I just looked at the evo 4g63 and it looks like it might bolt up for you its the mivec turbo motor right? the motor mounts are the same as the 420a I would have done the same swap as you but i don't have the 4k for the motor plus labor, at this point if i had the money i would just buy a gs-t or gsx anyway it would be about the same price and the motor is already there so i do agree with everyone on here about just buying a GS-T or GSX but if you got the money rip it up bro. :hellyeah:

only the evo 9 4g63 is mivec. The problem would be getting a FWD tranny to work with it and I wouldn't reccomend anybody trying to do an awd conversion to a 2g gs or rs.

ok thanx guys. i guess ill just start looking for a gst/gsx! i really want a 2g tho.
