I've recently purchased an Evo 16g wastegate actuator for my big 16g turbo because it was malfunctioning. I installed it yesterday and whats happening is, my boost is picking up extremely slowly. i purchased the part from slowboy racing and called them to diagnose the problem. They told me to tighten the Waste-gate which i did and make sure the control arm isnt loose which it isn't. the Waste-gate i originally had taken off had a straight piece of metal that attached to the control arm on the turbo the Evo 16g waste gate has a notch in it can that be the cause. This is pissing me off i checked all the intercooler pipes to make sure no leaks and just changed the j-pipe gasket cause that was originally giving me a problem leaking. if you guys need photos of both the wastegates i will take a picture 2nite and post it later. i hope someone can help me with this thanks so much

If everything is the same except the swap of a new wastegate then the wastegate is not closing shut solid 100% causing your slow boost build up. That is usually due to not having a tight close on the flapper arm.

Im not even sure how 2 tighten it anymore then i already have. When i twistthe control arm towards me it snaps back really quickly. i believe i have it as tight as i can but i might be wrong

Mitsubishi never made an adjustable actuator for the 14B/16G turbos. It sounds to me like you replaced the wastegate actuator on an eBay knockoff 16G with a MHI actuator. They are not interchangeable.

The towers on the knockoff 16G's compressor cover which the actuator mounts to are shorter than a MHI turbo, placing the wastegate actuator itself closer to the exhaust housing. Without the adjustment feature, the MHI actuator allows the wastegate flapper to hang open even when the actuator itself is fully closed. This will absolutely result in slow boosting or failure to build boost.

What was wrong with your original actuator? Did you bother to adjust it or test it before you deemed it defective?

what happened was i took it to a dyno shop in connecticut and was told that my actuator was going bad, it would eventually stop holding boost. so i drove it for sometime and it would hold 23psi. over the past month or so its been decreasing little by little now it wont go any higher then 15psi and won't hold it 2 long. so i believe that has 2 do with my actuator not the turbo it has no side to side shaft play and only a little in and out. and i guess that's the Ebay brand the person i bought the car off of had installed it. i did so much work 2 FROM NEW GASKETS 2 A BUILT HEAD,ALL NEW INTERCOOLER PIPES AND FRONT MOUNT, INJECTORS, SPRING AND SHOCKS, AEM BOOST CONTROLLER AND UEGO A/F GAUGE AND ALOT MORE TO this car i just want it 2 finally work great this is the last thing thats holding me back from the track. when i finished at the dyno shop i had 353hp 2 the wheels. i would finally like 2 feel that again.

Take a picture so we can verify weather it's a MHI or an ebay 16G. Also like jusmx said the MHI never came with a adjustable wastegate autuator. Here is a pic of my MHI evo3 for reference.

see how its got a piece on the arm thats adjustable. the mhi evo 16g doesnt and it stays closed. so i have 2 return the new one to slowboy racing and have them send me an adjustable one.

thanks i sent him an email 2 see if he has an adjustable one for a 16g i will get back 2 you when i find one and everything is working properly. if anyone finds a site that sells adjustable wastegate actuators for a big 16g let me know asap thanks again for your feedback.
