Sunday July 16th was ETRSCCA's sixth regional event held at Elizabethton High School. We had 61 entries with 5 in STX (3 regulars and 2 from another region. WRX, Mini S, VW R32, Impreza RS and my DSM).
The course design turned out to be one of my favorites of the year and was only designed that morning. It started into an immediate 90 degree left hander that led straight to a medium sized 90 degree right. This led to a slight left that went up a mild incline to an increasing right hand sweeper. From here it was down the hill to a fast right-left transition that ended back into the original 90 degree right hander. This exited into a five cone slalom that ended into a sharp right hand sweeper. After that it was just a quick turn to the left and straight through the finish lights.
All 3 of us regulars DNF'd our first run but quickly pulled ahead of the other two on the remaining runs of the first heat. After the four runs of the first heat I was in second, behind the WRX but ahead of the Mini. On the very last run of the second heat, 7 runs altogether, the Mini pulled ahead of me for good.
This has definitely been my best showing of the year. I am driving considerably more aggressive than I used to while maintaining the smoothness everyone has always said I had. The back and forth between second and third all day also added to the fun.
