Purchased this intercooler and piping kit after reading several threads about the various "cheaper" FMIC options. The total price was $260 shipped and included the "J" pipe and BOV. This saves around $150 over the VRSF kit that I was also considering. I wanted to post up some pictures of what I received and the packaging. I plan on writing a Tech Article when I install it this weekend with some pictures to aid in the installation of this particular kit on a 2G.
The good:
-Piping seems to be thick and good quality
-T clamps included seem to be very capable of higher boost levels
-Silicone couplers seem to be durable. (I asked for black instead of the listed blue couplers and ETD was very quick on getting back to me and shipped per my request.)
-Lower intercooler pipe is fitted for a boost source for the wastegate. (This could be a good or bad depending on if you need the boost source or not. If not, you can cap it as I am going to.)
-"J" pipe included
The bad:
-BOV was missing! (Currently working on resolving this issue and will update once I find something out.)
Now, on to the pictures.
Update 3-15-2011
I did receive confirmation from ETD Motors that they will ship the BOV immediately at no extra charge, of course. Very quick reply and good customer service. I will update agin once installed and the BOV arrives.
Update 3-16-2011
After doing some research, I have concluded that I actually received the piping kit for the $400 ETD Motors kit. This is basically the "nicer" Punishment Racing piping that has been debated on several threads. The $400 kit comes with the longer pipe with the BOV flange and includes 5 total pipes. The cheaper kit ($260) will have a smaller pipe that the BOV flange is on and include 7 total pipes. But wait, according to my picture I have 6 pipes. Once looking at the two kits at the ETD Motors eBay store, I have concluded that I received the piping kit that comes with the more expensive FMIC kit plus an additional pipe! Another key difference that i noticed was the couplers. I received two 45 degree couplers. The cheap kit only includes straight couplers and the more expensive kit includes two 45 degree couplers. I also received an extra coupler. There may be a reason that I received these extra pieces but I was very pleased to see that I paid $140 less and received the more expensive (and shorter route) kit. The only thing I didn't receive form the $400 kit was the mounting bracket. Fortunately I will be using the stock bumper support for mounting. My word of advice is if you are looking to luck on to this deal as I have, and another member or two have, is to request the black couplers. This is the only thing that I have seen in common with the other recipients and the only logical thing I can come up with.
Also, tech article will be finished over the weekend with a very descriptive install guide on a 2G.
After a little more research, I found that the extra pipe and coupler are for use with the stock turbo.
