how much extra hp do ya think these new mods will give me. MAFT and a 3inch GM MAF and some good tuning. i have right now a b16g, 255lph, 450cc, Fuel pressure regulator, intake, 3inch exhaust with evo manifold, mbc set at 16psi for now, intake. and once i set the MAFT will it be running good all the time no matter of the change of the weather, or everytime the weather change i will have to tune it again? :talon:
 
Over 300hp, you have to figure that Import tuner got 300hp out of a 1g awd with exhaust,Down Pipe, ground wires, filter,fuel cut defencer, then retested it months later and got 270 for some strange reason, so then added a safc and a mbc and some 550's and they were right back at 300hp, and thats on the the 14b.

I really dout a 14b put down 300hp without some fuel/boost tuning...heck i sorta have a hard time with 270 but thats easier to take in.
 
It's a fact,Import Tuner #56 Nov 03.
Baseline was 157 hp
Filter,Turbo back Exhaust,Ground Wires,Walbro 255hp, HKS FDC, made 290.3 hp 278.4 tq

In this months Import Tuner they install a MBC and get 299.6 hp and 272.3 tq.
Then they add 550's and hp dropped to 273.9 but tq raised to 302.6 :thumb:

Also it is crazy to say a 14b can't make 300hp, hell ArticTsi ran a 12.1 @112 on a stock 14b, I bet he makes well over 300.
 
Yeah, Import Tuner is the shit. I remember their article about the 2g Eclipse. It said the stock 16g turbo was way too small to make any good boost and had to be upgraded. They started with some things like exhaust, mbc, and AFC. They were able to set boost to "15 psi" but it would drop off to 11 by redline (because they neglected to change the stock bov or uic pipe) and would spike to 19 psi. The sad thing is I'm not making any of this up.

I think that was the most retarded, ill-informed article about a DSM that I've ever read in a magazine. I can't even open that magazine anymore (any magazine that advocates street racing doesn't deserve publication anyway).

As for how much horsepower, who cares? Just make up a number, because obviously the only racing you're interested in is at the keyboard; otherwise you would've taken the car to the track already. Why do people have to ask these stupid hp questions? I could give 2 shits what horsepower my car makes. All I know is it's fast and I want to beat my own times.

And why does everyone think they need a MAFT with a 16g? The 2g MAS really isn't that bad...

I remember all the flack he took from the DSMers that wrote in to tell him about the mistake. Either Castillo or Mulroney whoever, he blasted back that he knew a lot about cars but wasn't so closeminded that he'd get all over somebody for a simple mistake. But I still think those guys could have a 16g under the hood of that third hand car and not even know it.

Im still having a hard time taking in that the 14b went from 157 to 290 hp with just a filter, exhaust, ground wires, pump and FCD..........without boost control or anything....just dont sound right to me....
 
you mean they were suffering from boost creep and they didn't know it??? I thought they were the most knowldegable people around? ;)
 
yea i remember that issue, those power gains were for real, import tuner never puts fake power gains, trust me, they tested the tegra r and put an aem fuel rail and got negative hp and plus watever torque, i thought that they were prolly just writting numbers but when we put one on my frens car and had it dyno'd, the results came out the same, but what i think someone with a stock 1g should do is buy those parts and install them in the same order and see what comes out, it isnt all that much money for alot of power i remeber, I think the title on the cover was 106 hp for $660 i think, i dont know, but someone should just test it before they start thrownin punches at import tuner, they are a respectable source impo. :)
 
I agree, I do not think that Import Tuner is going to lie about thier HP readings, they use the Dyno at XS enginering(I'm sure it's good quality stuff), besides why would they post 290hp and then re-baseline it and come up with 270hp and tell us, as crazy as that is, it tells me they are giving us the accurate reading, no matter what they are. :thumb:

Although I am really curious how they went from 299HP to 273HP after they installed the 550's, even though the TQ up'd from 272TQ to 302TQ, what is better , the gain in TQ or HP, it makes me want to go pull my 550's(I have similar mods + a big16g).
 
I think the only reason they made 290 with the first set of mods is cause it was creeping up to 19 psi....and thats not a good thing....esspecially without bigger injectors and stuff. Hell i can turn my boost up to 25 psi if i wanted and do a dyno run...i dout it would make it home though.

The reason the HP dropped was because the injectors made the air fuel mixture alittle more rich. I dont really know why the torque increased though.
 
DON'T BOTHER TALKING ABOUT IMPORT TUNER.

Those numbers are totally whacked. Don't even bother discusing why this or why that, who cares? None of it makes sense, is relevant, or applies in the real world anyway.

They're probably quoting damned crank numbers or some crap anyway.

A 16g at 16 psi with stock injectors isn't going to make much more than 250 dynojet WHP.

You guys are saying that a publication which likely biased to certain companies and products (SCC and Vishnu anyone?) is "certainly" presenting info in an unbiased manner without any susbtantiation whatsoever?

Import Tuner also corrects their numbers to represent flywheel horsepower... how lame. Why not just print the actual whp numbers they get, and actual whp gains? I think TPR is the only magazine that I've seen that does this AND has said negative things about products they reviewed. Unlike SCC, who tests a top-mount on an STi and LEAVES IT ON THE CAR AFTER IT MAKES LESS HORSEPOWER.

I'm not trying to be an ass to you guys, I just hate it when people make hard statements without basing them on any facts.
