Long story short- finishing up with a 6 bolt swap in my 97 gst When I first started I planned on getting dsm link...so I changed out my 97-99 flashable ecu for an EPROM ecu....../ now I'm not for awhile

After doing a lot of research I'm now under the impression that the 98-99 ecu doesn't mind the 1g cas. While the 95 EPROM likes to throw the misfire cel....I'd rather not run into this problem & any input & or experience with this is very much appreciated....

Stock everything with green top cas and Magnus wiring harness for the cas and crank angle sensor is what I'll be using. Thanks in advance

^^i agree. Dsmlink is easier to use and you'll get more readily available help with it. But ecuflash is just as capable and easy once you get use to it. Not to mention it's way cheaper. I started using it with no tuning knowledge other than an safc and now I've got a really solid tune done completely by myself. I also am 6 bolt swapped as of last week and haven't got a misfire.

Ok- I don't have any experience in tuning but think I can pick it up fairly quickly when the time comes.with 2 kids I can't afford dsm link either-- With the flashable ecu is it just the cable and software that you need to change maps?( for future reference) :)

We live close enough i would help you flash if you needed to i have open port cable.

yeah if your already set up with the ecu flash just go that route. myself have a 95 so i cant plug and play with ecu =/ i too bought all the shit for ecu flash and its just a mess. hope it all works out for you. my friend set up a ecu flash on his car. just read and youll learn so much

not to high jack here but if you bought everything to flash all you have to wire in is 1g cas I also have a 95 and it was a brezzz

To the OP, you need a 98-99 ECU. The 97's aren't flashable. You'll also need to connect to pin 79 on the ECU for flashing. Not sure what your goals are, but maybe getting a V2 DSMLink setup might be the better option. The Tactrix cable will run you 200, an ECU about 125, EVOScan is 25, ECUFlash is free, Ceddymods are 5 bucks. So you're about 350 into it and a V2 DSMLink setup can be had for 350-400 and you'll have much more help and support on the ECMLink fourms.

I bought a V2 setup just to play around with on my 95 and it is much simpler than the Ceddymods, but the Ceddymods have more things to play with so that's what I put back into my car. I'm running Ceddymods on my pretty much stock 99 and my 95 6 bolt swapped, 1g head, 1g CAS car. I did have to buy a different ECU for the 95. There's some write-ups on Ceddy's site, a "how to get a basic tune with ECUFlash" walk through on this site, there's the "Merlin's ECUFlash" pdf guide for EVOs which is similar. On the EVO forums, a member named "recompile" did a whole video series on tuning an EVO which is similar to the Ceddymods. So, there is some info out there, but DSMLink is easier to get going.

Both DSMLink and the Ceddymods have a way of eliminating the random misfire code.

I hope that you didn't really mean V2 DSMlink...

Because,
While this is just my matter of opinion

I don't feel there is Any amount of support or "ease" of use that is worth Giving up. Real Cell Base Timing and Real Control of Larger, higher Resolution Timing and Fuel Maps... . :|

I may be biased here a bit as I don't care what GUI I use as it's all the Same to me.

So,
Comparing the old DSMlink to A flashable ECU now days isn't a real comparison to me. V3 Is a Great product and not at all what I'm talking about here. But I know personally you couldn't pay me to run the old v2 over any form of other EMS that has cell based timing control. Even more so if the End cost is more or less close to the same.

I think this really comes down too ids Can/Should the OP spend the Money on V3(when they can) or Can they Use effectively use the Ecuflash and EvoScan with Ceddymods on their own... . As unless they are Pretty DYI savvy there are not a lot of other options to do things on their own in between... .

There are a few other options... But I won't get too much into that here... .
