London,
I recently bought a 92 talon tsi awd A/T. The motor was beyond repair so I went to a local junkyard and found a 91 turbo laser M/T (I was lucky it was gonna be crushed the next week). Good deal too, $250 and had 80k km. I noticed the turbo was different when we changed motors. I think from reading whats on the site that the talon had a 13b and now it has a 14g. I've read that A/T use the 13b and M/T Had the 14. Will there be any advantage/disadvantage to having the M/T turbo on my automatic?

Yes, many people upgrade from a 13g to a 14b. You'll also notice that the exhaust manifold has larger runners and a larger collector than the auto one. Oh, and the m/t engine will have slightly more aggressive cams as well.

The engine from the m/t will have blue top injectors, which are 450's. You're stock a/t injectors are 390's, and have a tan or grey top. You will either need to swap ECU's from a m/t car, or put your 390 injectors on the m/t engine(not the best idea).

IIRC the fuel pressure regulator is different as well, with 1g m/t cars having a base fuel pressure of 37, with the a/t at 43.5. If you have an afpr and/or something to tune with this doesn't pertain to you, but if you don't, you'll want to use the a/t 43psi fpr with the 390 injectors and a/t ECU, or the 37psi fpr with the 450 injectors and m/t. Think of it as a package deal to keep the ECU and (stock) tune happy.

So:
m/t ECU, 450's, m/t fpr

or

a/t ECU, 390's, a/t fpr

I would suggest swapping to the m/t setup.

I'm not completely sure if there are any noticeable problems with running a 43psi a/t fpr or not with a stock setup anyway, but I thought it should be mentioned. This could easily be tuned out by safc, dsmlink etc.

I think you misunderstood. I didnt really explain clearly now that i read my post. I didn't just switch the turbo. I swapped the engines completely. So it has the right injectors for the turbo.

No, I understood, I'm just saying that the m/t engine has larger injectors on it. Your stock ECU is tuned for 390's, and you will need to have one of the above setups for it to run correctly. ie a m/t ECU if you decide to run the 450's

I has the 14b on it. The original engine with the 13 is sitting on my shop floor. The engine out of the laser with the 14 is in my car now. My question was does it matter if I have a M/T engine in my A/T car. I thought maybe they were tuned differently for manual shifting or something similar. I'm new to these cars and there doesnt seem to be many people who own them in my area. Especially 1g's. - directed at blkwidow

I understand what you mean now peepers.

thanks, that helped me out a lot. I'll look out for a M/T car i can steal the ecu and fpr off of. I've noticed that the car is very, very slow to accelerate before the boost gets up to about .5 on the stock guage. Is this normal for these cars or could it be the incorrect ecu causing the problem?

7:8 compression, a/t, 2 liters and a heavy car don't do much until the boost comes on :p

By the way the stock gauge should be replaced by an aftermarket unit if you ever start messing with boost or mods. It's in no way accurate.
