I just have something i want to throw out, just to see what people think. I'm into all sorts of cars, from muscle to tuner. Now I love dsms, i've had 2, and despite all the problems, i really enjoy them. However, what gives with tuner engine options. We are stuck with a 2.0 engine. The max we can go is 2.3 with what i would think is a rather extreme bore and stroke job(not to mention expensive) now the honduh guys have many choices. B16, B18, B20, H22 etc. Others i'm sure have some options as well. and look at muscle cars, you can go from relatively tiny V6 to an outragious 500ci bigblock, all in many of the same vehicles. WHy do tuners not have this type of selection for thier cars, especially us dsm guys? why can't we get some 2.8L monster designed for us and stuffed into a 1g. Now that would be insane, to have not just bolt on, turbo and internal options, but a wide range of block sizes. NO amount of boost is a substitute for Cubic Inches! :thumb:

have you seen our engine bays??? theres not a whole lot of room in there.. also the trannys are mounted in there too.. hondas are still using a 4cyl motor and the 1.5-2.2l motors there isnt really a huge size difference. the muscle cars your talking about have alot larger engine compartments and the trannys are bolted behind the motors leaving more space in there engine bays... there simply no room for more than 4cyl

Actually I have seen a 3rd gen V6 put in a 2G DSM...

With 4g63's Maybe when you can build one to put over 500 to the wheels on pump gas and well over 600 in full race trim on racing fuel you just don't need anything bigger? Look at the AWD DSM times list then the 3KGT Vr4's list... sure its heavier but their is still another 1.0L to be maximized. If bigger was better the 3k vr's would be doing alot better than they are.

You can swap in a Mitsubishi 4G64 2.4L there are lots of guys around running them do a search with 4G64 and see what comes up good idea if you are hungary for ci.
The only replacement for displacement is technology.

I am an autobody major, and a lot of guys in there are big on tuner cars. some of them were saying that the trend in japan now instead of small turbo or supercharged 4 n 6 cylinders is now to go with larger 6 and 8's with single or even dual turbos. DUnno the validity to this, but it seems strange that the trend here is small engines while there it would be completely shifting the oposite direction.

2.6 baby! It's been done. The ever more popular 2.4 is crazy, but the 2.6, I've heard of only 1 person doing such.... All I gotta say is wowzers. OMG

i recall reading about a 2.7L kit available through howell automotive, but i don't know that any were shipped. look how fast the stock bore/stroke has gone, you think you can do better? :p
no offense intended, but i have to agree that the best replacement for displacement is technology; innovation is the key to success in this instance

technology does not replace displacement. the only thing that can "replace" it. is MORE COWBELL.. i mean boost

seriously though. v8s have crate motors, because v8s have been in muscle cars making big power since the early 60s. v8s are raced, and put in dozens and dozens of different makes and models of cars. not to mention, the ability to mount almost any chevy engine into almost any chevy engine bay. boost is most definitly our solution.

unless you want to extend the front frame of the car and stuff an LS1 in.. (or ls7 hehe) and use a rwd tranny... (wait.. that'd be a camaro... only lighter)

i agree that boost is the answer to more power... but it's how you're producing the pressure, cooling the air, controlling fuel, etc etc
that's where technology and innovation come into play. a local guy with a boosted b18c1 recently upgraded to an aem standalone because hondata would only read 2bars ; he's planning to run 32-35psi this season

It's still a shame that the muscle car days are over, you can't buy a 400hp car from the factory for $5K. It'd be nice if companies would offer a wider range of engine and performance selection when you buy a car. Sorry if i'm b*tchin here, just the mood i'm in.
