I have a 1997 eclipse and i have been searching on the best, cheapest and safest way to put a turbo on my 420a engine. I have came to the conclussion that a complete performance bottom end engine rebuild and new performance valves with valvesprings and retainers I can get a complete stage 2 turbo kit and push 10 to 15 psi safely. So my question is will these mods with this boost pressure be safe or would I need to do more to engine before upgrading to turbo as the engine is all factory at current time?

T04E Turbocharger with wet float bearing made of high quality cast with steel material. It is the turbocharger kit on dnamotoring.com only one for eclipse

With a built bottom end I wouldn't say 15 is completely unreasonable but you are going to run into fuel issues at that boost with stock components

I was always curious to see if anyone would try to toss in a 2.4 out of an SRT-4...you see it a lot with the neons of that generation but the engine being backwards may cause a bit of a dilemma

You can get a 2.4 block and use our 420a head, but need to custom fab motor mounts, custom oil pan, and a way to tune (megasquirt) and so much more that it's just a pain in the ass. So unless you have money, dont do it LOL.

Build your block, get all supporting fuel mods, a way to tune (portfueler or MS), and enjoy!!

so what would help with the fuel issues? fuel injectors and fuel pump?

You will need at the LEAST a walbro 255LHP, and depends how you go about your fuel setup. Can go vortech FMU 12:1 with little higher then stock injectors, or get MS or portfueler and get a rising 1:1 fuel regulator. All depends on your setup!

Use this as an example of what all you need to turbo your 420a, but know i suggest MS over the FMU all day, just because you can control everything which will help your motor in the long run! - http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...uild-420a-stage-2-turbo-kit-under-1000-a.html

Oh I know it is a pain in the ass to do but that usually doesn't keep someone from doing it. I always thought the first gen neons with the SRT-4 drive train would make a nice sleeper but it is one of those projects at the end of the day you just shake your head at for the amount of time it probably took to pull off.

But yeah, injectors pump and tuning is going to be the route you would have to take to do it right.

The SRT-4 trans (NV-T850) won't work in our cars (NV-T350). We can use the neon trans. with the 3.55 gearing, that just gives us taller gears tho! Good upgrade for turbo'd cars tho!

so this engine rebuild and turbo will be over the next few months saving and spendin but with the rebuild and turbo WITHOUT injectors what would be a max psi boost from turbo would be recommended to ensure safety of my engine as i will obviously get fuel injectors in the near future:thumb:

You need to have the pump and at least a FMU. Car will hit fuel cut before anything so really I would say 0 psi LOL. Now if you get the Wally and a FMU, you can safely run (on good solid engine) 6-8 psi safely. But know you risk damaging that newly built engine this way.

ok cool thanks for all the help but like i said over a few months will be saving and spending so I have plenty of time to read up and really find out the best and safest way to go across this project so I have no worries my engine will be safe and happy :rocks:

So you won't be hurt if I told you to save up for a better turbo kit LOL. I looked at the kit your looking at and a nameless turbo is sketchy itself. I mean nothing has a brand name on it which should make you guess the quality, hope that makes sense??

I mean seriously, it's been 2 years and I have a turbo kit that I pieced together, and just getting to finishing my block THANK GOD. But moral of the story, don't rush because turbo'ing these 420a's is by no means fun, more like a constant migraine haha. But just get quality parts and do it right once (like I am) and you should be good!

I completely agree with buying the right stuff first and my exhaust system is from this website the horsepower is no joke with these guys i got my headers cat and catback exhaust in a package it sounds great and puts out greater i am now up to outrunning my cousins mustang which has a v6 so i no this company makes good stuff for a fraction of the cost of other sites but i will still take your advice and research their turbos to make sure what im buying will last
