Thanks alot guys...

I dont know how well the purple will match the red but I'm really not to worried, it should look at home in the Colt engine bay.

As for Tranny's the 89+ is a hydro clutch system, I'm just running a 1g slave cylinder...

As for lag, thats honestly about the least of my worries... The car may not make full boost till 6000 RPMS but it is such a linear power band, where even at 5000 RPMS the car should be getting crazy...

I am going to run a quad stage boost controller, and gate the shifter to change boost with every gear, I'm going to be running a 1bar spring in the boost controller so first will be around 14psi... second I'll ramp up a couple pounds... third Will probably see a couple more lbs, and 4th will be a rollercoaster....

Andrew.

...Update...

This weekend went pretty quickly, Went snowboarding on sunday so I didnt really get a ton of work pumped out on the car...

I did quite a bit of cleaning, and the women cleaned the **** out of the engine bay :)... it looks great.

This weekend I made a gauge cluster that goes in place of my stock radio ( I dont need one ) It holds my oil pressure gauge along with boost gauge and air/water intercooler switch.

I mounted the Tach down by the passenger side feet with the shift like pointed towards me so I will still be able to see it, I may not be able to see the rpms but I dont really need too.

on top of that the rest of the interior was put back in and it turned out pretty well.

I also decided that It would be a good idea to crack the oil pan to check how to see how the bottom end is holding together, The Engine only has 238 miles on it and it seems that the break in went pretty well.

Cleaned the **** out of the oil pan and slapped it back together using Permatex silver RTV high torque... I have never had a problem leaking oil while using it.

Their are gasket reliefs on the oil pan for excess RTV on the oil pan itself, I always fill these with RTV first and than add a nice thick bead around the hole oil pan after.

And thats about all that got done this weekend.

Ah.... those are mostly stiffening ribs to try and reduce distortion. The "proper" RTV bead is a single, ~1/8" bead around the rim, going inside between the bolt holes and the rim. Yours may be a bit more messy, although there is a slight danger of squishing out enough to lose some into the pan.

I spent forever finding a CLEAN na shell because I wanted the car to be light, which the NA over the turbo version is much lighter, as for keeping the car RIGID, it has a cage and will be good to 9.90's... The car is FWD and will stay FWD, alot less Shit to break that way... Its spaced a half inch out and running some MT's up front on a custom set of traction bars... It will hook just fine

Nice set up. I hope the traction is as easy to get as you think it will be. Ive seen colts with over 400whp not even get under 13's

Actually you have a roll bar not a cage. A cage requires a halo and supporting bars.

Looks good. I'm not a big fan of funky colored engines with plain looking car but both the car and engine alone look sweet. You should paint the car that same purple color it would be the best looking colt and one of the fastest too :thumb:

everyone bow to the master.

The motor is getting Closer to going in the car, if all goes well the motor will be in the car this weekend ( fingers are crossed)

I have decided to throw the stock trans back in the car to get it running and tuned. Run the stock trans with a unsprung 4 puck, to get it tuned and than if all goes well I've been debating building a slush box and seeing how the car would like a built auto.

After talking with IPT I'm thinking this will probably be the way to go. its just gonna be a little pricey. That and I'm worried about driving around the street with a 6k stall.

With my goal of puting the motor in the car this weekend I started to put the little Shit on the motor, Starting with the polished and powder coated CAS.

Powdercoated and slapped together the thermostat housing :) and bolted it up... I'm pretty excited with how well everything is looking

I have spent so much time doing everything right, I figured I might as well powder coat the two metal timing covers that go behind the cam gears.

I also powdercoated the cam gears, and the cam gear bolts.

to make the engine bay look a little cleaner, I cut re welded and powder coated the drivers side motor mount.

Powdercoated the throttle body elbow/ polished the TB bolts, and threw the TB on. I'm going to try using grey RTV.

Damn, I have a spare 4-spoke intake cam gear from a 98 GST I would've given you. I have no use for it.

Clean setup, though....just curious, why the 2G throttle body elbow? They're only 52mm inside, which is just over 2"....fine if you're running a 2G (52mm) throttle body, but not if you're using a 1G (60mm) or larger throttle body with that turbo.

I think your the only one thats noticed :) I have a 4 spoke and the powder coat chipped off on it so I threw that on, before the motor starts I'll redo the 4 spoke and throw it back on :)

as for the 2g TB elbow... I'm running 3 inch intercooler piping on my air to water setup that is only going to be about 2 feet long, and with how short the piping is, and the short length on the piping I will be fine. Its not PERFECT by any means, but i don't see it having any problems doing its job.
Andre.

Yeah I was thinking that you are a perfect 75mm tb with 3" intercooler piping candidate but you do want to keep it streetable. I would def keep everything atleast 2.5" throughout though a neck down in the system will restrict flow up top with a turbo like this.

Kiggly runs a stock TB, call him and tell him his 8.66 FWD has a huge restriction of flow up top, I'll call curt brown and let him know Stock TB also suck

the 3 inch piping acts as part of the intake Plenum.

I have a 75mm Throttle body but my Intake isn't flanged for it ( o well ) in an Na application TB size will matter much more than in a Forced induction system, If your point is to pick my setup a part, go ahead, I'm a college student on a budget, if you want to send me a 75mm throttle body and an intake flanged for one I will gladly run it...

I said it should be 2.5. The tb isn't the restriction I spoke of it's the elbow. A bigger tb would be better yes but not mandatory but a 2g elbow is a big restriction in a setup like yours. I'm not picking anything apart just giving my opinion from my experience. I don't need to call anyone to speak in a educated and knowledgeable manner on these things.

A stock NA tb is about 2.5" ;)

For a college kid on a budget you sure do have a lot of play money. Most dsm owners have 16g-50trim cars with basic fmic setups and stock internals so forgive me for assuming that your nice setup that like I said shows a lot of attention to detail was a indication of your ability to pick up the optimal(not necessarily best) part to complete it.

LOL I am a fulltime student carrying a full time job, besides the block, I have a low priced race car, built with used parts that may not be the BEST, but fit my build and will work with it. I dont need 30,000 to make lots of power, time patience and good deals, along with a little bit of sponsorship help, allow me to enjoy this hobby.
Andrew

That's cool and like I said this is a very nice build. I think being a little more open to advice from other who are going or have been down your same path wouldn't hurt. I work a full time and part time job that both pay well and 30k isn't something that I look to squeeze out either. I would enjoy the same kind of advice from tuners like you in my thread ( http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drag-strip/317907-project-9s-no-comprmise.html ). Good luck man.

You guys have already seen most these pics but I had a buddy stop over with a d-slr and take some photos, turned out pretty well, here are a couple of the good pics

The motor went in without a hitch... threw on the clutch/flywheel with everything else and jammed it into the engine bay. instead of a chain I didnt want to scratch all the bling bling up so I settled for a couple nylon straps a couple used shirts and some masking tape to keep everything pretty.

Now will come the hard part of tucking everything away and hiding it nicely :)
