All threads with vague titles regarding engine bay noises are now merged HERE.

If you honestly feel we can diagnose an internal engine problem from a poor description or low-quality video / audio sample, give it a shot.

I own a 1997 gst spyder and there is a ticking noise comming fron the engine. It comes and goes and it mostly sounds bad at idle. I have 97,000 miles on it and i change the oil regularly. I changed it about 2000 miles ago I need help to fix the problem.

my oil pressure seems to be higher.

it sounds like two things are hitting togethor but i cant find the source.

do you thing BSE would eliminate my problem?

Could be just a harmonic off your FMIC then, which would be GOOD news for a change~! - You are a GSX so Driveshaft Steady Bearings maybe??? - Certainly a BSE aint gonna fix a Rod Knock.

hmmm.
it just seems like if it was rod knock then it would happen when im downshifting too.
not just when im accelerating.

I hear a ticking noise in my engine. Its only when im idleing, atleast that i know of. It isnt loud at all,and you can only really hear it when u pop the hood. If the hood is closed, you can still hear it, but not unless u actually pay attention and listen to the engine. I know 1 of my belts is lose from my other post about it squeking, but the belts are not to tight but not to loose.

Any ideas what this could be?

Could be numerous things. It could be your lifters, but that normally only happens at lower oil pressures (hot) rather than cold. I have had lifters tick at startup though. Be more specific in the area that it is coming from. If you can post a video that might help also.

it sounds like its coming from the belt area on the right side

Ill have to make a video tomorrow, mom has my camera

Go get a piece of hose, like, big hose. Put it up to your ear and the use the other end to point to places to listen, its like a poor mans stethiscope (sp?). you dont need to have it RIGHT next to whats making the noise, itll point you in the right direction though. It works, I do it all the time on this noisy engine of mine.

95 gst makes a clicking noise when it is at 1000 rpms or so. i dont think its the lifters, because it goes away if its under 1000 rpms and over. could it be the the plugs if they arent gapped properly. open to and suggestions.

thw injectors never clicked before. it started doing it when it got really cold outside. if i hit the gas when it clicks, it will get louder until the rpms drop down to like 750 then it stops. should i turn dowm my idle?

Can you track where it's coming from? Is it a high-pitched clicking or more of a clunking?

On a side note, I never thought I could distinguish different noises using a different vowel :p

Pinpointing the clicking noise is key since there are many things in an engine bay that can click.

Mine has a similar clicking noise. I have tracked it down to the solenoid shown by the yellow line in this link: http://members.shaw.ca/dsm.1000q/Engineprimer/2G/solenoids.htm

This part, so far as I can tell, is the purge control solenoid valve and is mainly used for emissions; However, since my car still passes with flying colors, I just let it click it's little heart out>
