Problem is the driver side strut tower nut that holds the strut bar in place is stripped to all hell, so I can't take the bar off. :|

THAT IS MY SETUP!!!!! thats that same old school RRE strut tower brace... these pictures i took the first time i put on that strut tower brace. (pre fire)

good news from my insurance agent... the car went up on Dec. 23 and its been a REALLY long time without word from insurance. they finally got a hold of me today and said it took four insurance investigators to come out and determine the damages done and inspect the vehicle. they won't be totalling it :thumb: and they'll be paying for the damages, now they're just trying to determine how much its going to be. THANK GOD!

if anyones running a strut tower brace that even has potential to touch that positive battery terminal and short out do something about it NOW. thats the dumbest possible way to burn your car to the ground.

perhaps just wrapping it like this guy did will be sufficient?

You must have something that'll withstand being banged-on and hammered by a shifting battery, if it's running that close. Otherwise, allow at least a half-inch clearance at the very least. A few layers of tape won't get it- gofer's terminal cover wasn't enough, apparently.

I'll be surprised if that repair estimate comes in under the total-loss price.

Old thread i know but i am currently shopping for a new "effective" strut brace like dc's. this thread reminded me of my old 420a talon, i had a cheapo Ractive strut brave on it. Well after driving it like it was a formula one race car for about a month my car started acting funny one day. Engine light flashing from misfire and so on. I pulled over, car still running, popped the hood. You could literally see sparks shooting from my coil pack to the strut bar. The bar had somehow pressed down on it and cracked the coil housing. When i took off the bar it was burnt to a crisp in a about an inch spread. Without proper planning these bars are dangerous. I am currently relocating my battery to the rear to safely accomidate for a dc or sprint strut brace.

Thats my two cents!
