my neighbor recently picked up a 2g gsx and it was running fine until one day he was cruising home and the engine just cut out and he had a huge power loss engine wouldnt go over 2200 rpms and it idles really low when you try to rev it in neutral it just revs up to 2200 and spits a lot of black smoke out of the exhaust. we checked the whole intake and exhaust it has an safc 2 and a 255 fuel pump, could it be a fuel or maybe safc problem ill give more info if neccesary but if anyone could help that would be great

Sounds like a boost leak, check all of ## couplers and clamps from the turbo to your throttle body and make sure they are all on good and tight, and if you can make a boost leak tester and test it for all small leaks as well.

Ok ill check that out thanks a lot I will get back to this thread as soon as I check and let you know

def not a boost leak, the car would still rev up just not with any power. it is either ignition or fuel. maybe even compression if your like my car. the black smoke is fuel that hasn't been burnt so the fact that it isn't revving up is because you have less cylinders and they are trying to work while the other piston is working against us. check your oil and coolant levels. if those are low or low pressure its time for a head gasket my friend!

the prob with these cars is you have to drive them like 50 or so miles with something wrong with them in order for he check engine to come on. with this problem I doubt they did that, I know I wouldn't ha. so the chances that it has a cel is slim. but however its probabily air related. because the black smoke is fuel that is not burnt, so we know we have fuel so maybe there is something to do with your intake, possibly a manifold leak?

Unplug your MAF and tell me how long it takes for the CEL to come on. I repair cars professionally for the last 25 year's, and I know that's not true.
