Engine bay is way to hot for me

Can any of you DSM'ers help me? My 99 GS-T is really hot under the hood. I have some mods and am planning more. My problem is that summer is coming and I want to keep my ride running as cool as possible. I don't want to change the hood (for some reason I like the stock one!) I have cleaned and flushed the radiator and all of its openings. I also added some Red Line Water Wetter to the cooling system. I would like to try some exhaust wraps, and mabey even a turbo wrap, but I am unsure of the draw backs to this. If any one can tell me the negitive side to heat wraps It would be a big help. Also some guidence as to how much and where I should put it! Mabey a pic or two of it on the vehicle? Any other thoughts on keeping the engie bay cool is also great! please help!

You could try putting some washers underneath the hinges in the back to raise it up alittle bit and let some air out the back like a cowl induction. You could also do the greyforest hood mod That looks good, would look the best on a black car because you can't really see it, I might do it on mine here pretty soon as well.

You do have a heat shrink on the manifold right? If your not used to a turbo engine, they do run alot hotter than regular engines.

Here is a silly question, but do you have a heatshield in place? tubular manifold? what exactyl is causing it to be so hot?

Yes I do have the heat sheilds in place on the stock manifolds. It is probably a normal amount of heat for a turbo car, but I just want it to be a little cooler. I may try te washers under the hinge mod, but I would really like to use some header wrap and am wondering if there are any draw backs to useing this stuff. By the way what is the grayforest hood mod?

DO NOT lift the back of the hood. Keep the weatherstrip in place there. When moving, it's a high-pressure point on a car (which is why it's used for cowl induction) and will fight the air coming into the radiator.
Yes, the engine compartment of turbocharged DSMs seem warm, and compared to us they are. But everything under there is meant for it.
Be more concerned with keeping the AC ready for the damned summers we get here.

Heat wrap works well for reducing heat, but I have seen it on 350 headers and it caused a lot of the ones I have seen to rust straight through. I have not see it on a regular manifold though, but I would think that a manifold would hold up better

Thanks fpr all the help you have offered to me. I guess I will try the header wrap on my manifold and keep the heat shields. Mabey I will even try to fabricate some sort of cold air induction to reduce intake temps further. Also I just recharged the A/C, but man does that suck alot of power from the car or what? I guess I am just used to V8's where it is not as noticable!
