I have taken the head, turbo, 02 mani., exhaust mani., intake mani., and many other enigne parts off. Is it ok to spray a crap load of engine degreaser and use a scotch kitchen pad to clean up the engine bay or should I go another route. I would also like to replace the vacuum and other hoses with new ones. Any suggestions?

Shouldnt be any problem just seal the deck of the block good and i always put a plastic bag over my altenators.

What about the electrical connectors? Would the degreaser hurt them and should I spray them with the electrical cleaner just for good measure?

I have found that Easy Off oven cleaner works well for this. Just be careful not to hose down the inside of the block or any electrical stuff!

I also used high temp engine paint in glossy black to paint the exhaust mani, o2 mani., and intake mani. They turned out nice but I would like to get my valve cover and intercooler piping powdercoated in a gunmetal color. Anyone know someone here that does decent work at a decent price?

High temp engine paint is no match for the heat that your exhaust manifold and o2 sensor housing will see. It will burn and flake off and look worse then when you started. Most High temp engine paint is rated for around 500 degrees, the exhaust around the turbo will be 2 to 3 times that easy. The intake manifold will be fine though.

Why are you painting the stuff that needs to be done professionally (exhaust parts would need to be ceramic coated) and wanting to pay to have the easy stuff painted? Valve covers and intercooler pipes hold up fine, even with regular spray paint.

use WD-40 on electrical connectors after your done hosing it off. WD stands for Water Displacement. thats what it was originally designed to be used for.

cover the open areas of the block and alternator, then spray it down with your chemical of choice. i like to use wd-40 for the wires, brake cleaner for the block, and simple green for all of it, just don't soak the electrical connections and you should be fine. as for painting the exhaust parts, all that the paint is gonna do it ship off and look like aids.

The paint I got was 1000 degree but it sounds like that was a bad choice. I had no idea that the exhaust got that hot. Anyway, I guess I'll drive it with it painted and then when I go to Parris Island in September I'll have all of it powdercoated since I won't be able to drive or do anything remotely fun for 3-6 months :D
