Hey everyone, recently picked up a 98 gsx with a 6 bolt swap and i have a few questions...

1. What does that metal tube go to? The one at the bottom of this picture conneted to that hose.

2. How do I cleanup my engine bay? I want to get rid of everything i dont need, vacuum lines, wiring, everything. I have wires everywhere, its too confusing.

I found this thread: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-miscellaneous/198327-taboo-speed-shop-vacuum-diagram-removal-1g-2g.html

Not sure if i follow it though, so can i just remove all those vacuum lines, blockoff the egr, and get rid of those 3 solenoids? the egr, evap, wastegate, and fuel pressure?

What is everything i dont need in it? Im keeping power steering and heat but thats it.

1. the tube is a oil line. might be used for the turbo oil feed but cant see where it goes with that pic

2. the only vacuum lines you need are one to the fpr. one to the bov and one to the wastegate. everything else can be eliminated

No the little tube is a oil coolant line. Unlike the 1g's external oil cooler the 2g's have an internal which you see. Coolant passes around the oil filter housing to cool the oil.

The taboo speed shop link is a good one. Yes those three solenoids can be removed along with the EGR.. However, if you have to pass smog for registration Id suggest against this because you WILL fail. They also make you throw Check Engine codes. Removing A/C, cruise, and a small wire tuck and maybe a battery relocation are also other ways people clean up the bay.

ah so i can just rip everything out?

I have a 6 bolt swap, and that tube has no hose connected to it, its just open...is that ok?

what do you mean smog? An emissions test? I thought i can turn off those cel's with dsmlink?

also, do i just buy an egr blockoff?

and when i take them out and i throw codes, will my car be running funny?

That hose is supposed to have coolant running thru it. The 2 spots where it would connect is either the thermostat housing area right under the hose line that runs to the over flow tank or right under the water pump with the big pipe that runs between the lower rad hose and into the water pump. Its a nipple right before the pipe meets the water pump right below it. I'd check your coolant level as well.

I don't think New York has emissions test, but say if you live in California you would need those because they have a rule where your car needs to run clean and not just straight blow shit out the rear. Its fine in New York if you do tho LOL. No need to worry about that.

Yes you can turn off codes with DSMLink and no your car wont run like crap. And yes check EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts for EGR block off plates or the classifieds... I thought I seen someone selling one for like 8 bucks the other day.

ah that sounds bad, but where would that other hose connect to? i want to see if that is leaking coolant or if its plugged

I don't see any coolant leaks. That metal line goes up on the block to the water pipe that then connects to the water pump.
