So, depending the pay I get at my summer job, I might end up painting my car. After seeing some photos of my car from an auto cross event a few weekends ago, I've decided that it's finally seen enough.

I want to go with a blue metallic color with the black top, but I don't know whether to get enamel or urethane paint. My buddy's dad owns a paint shop and can spray what ever I get, I just need to get it.

So guys, what are some pros/cons to each? What have you guys been using, other than Rustoleum :D
What's a normal price to pay for a gallon of this stuff? My buddy just bought a can for $500 to paint his truck that new Charger red. I don't need anything that special.

easy base/clear coat... it will look so much better, buffs way better the acrylic.
acrylic is nice cause its a one and done, you dont have to come back to put clear over it.
it will probably cost about the same either way you go, do you know what brand the shop uses? PPG? Dupont?.. personally i'm a dupont color guy, its just what i mostly use in college but ppg color will be the same thing, but ppg clear DC 3000 is way better then G2 4700 (Dupont) IMO!

are you going all out? as in painting jams, bay, hatch?

well dont get confused there is acrylic enamel which is one stage bottom end shiny out of the gun u can buy a clear for this btw if u like. then there is acrylic urethane enamel which is a better enamel of the 2 more flex in it . then there is your urethane bc/cc 2 stage paints.

i just bought midnight blue bc/cc and primer kit for 269 shipped

If I paint my car, I'm going all out. I'll strip out the interior and the engine so I can get color everywhere. Hatch, spoiler, moldings, headlights, taillights will all come off. I'm not sure which kind of paint they use, but I think they use PPG. I can spray whatever I want as long as I buy it.

When we painted my car we did a base coat clear coat (2 Stage) process, I think it was urethane paint. The reason your buddy's paint was so expensive is because it's red. For whatever reason reds are about twice as much or more as another other color, atleast that's what my local autobody shop told me. I bought a gallon of sprayable Black Pearl Slate for about $100 from my local auto body shop. The clear coat can be pretty expensive, at the time I painted my car it was about $220/gal of whatever I bought, but you don't need a whole gallon, we used whatever took us to do 3 coats and sold the rest back to the auto body shop.

^^thats a nice lookin ride you got there^^:thumb:
yea dont go with red way to expensive, i priced out some DC3000 the other day and it was $300 for the clear and hardner. but i can get it for half that through our shop, and so should you dads buddy. shops will always get a good deal on supplies because paint sales are marked up twice what there worth most times

Urethane is the way to go 100%
Aww come on why's everybody gotta do the blue and black now :(
Haha jk

Don't worry, it's a brighter blue than that.

I was just ball busting ya.....I think your car would look sweet blue and black!

I think the pics make mine look darker than it is. when it hits sunlight it gets Way brighter like the Ebay ad looks.

Oh, I'm going blue/black no matter what you say. :p
I went on Ebay to get color ideas, since most ads have pictures.

How long ago did you paint that? How's it holding up?

I painted it About 2 or 3 years ago and its held up great. Just make sure you put some clear coat over it to protect it. Its very Shiny, but NOT as metallic as I wanted.
