Emissions question (EGR?)

I passed everything except the hydrocarbons part which i barley failed, ive tried everything and i think i need to hook my EGR back up unless you guys have something to say. Also when hooking my EGR up is it necessary to hook it to the egr silenoid or is that just for cold starts? And if i have to hook it up how should the vaccum be ran without the silenoid if i can do that?????

You want to have the EGR solenoid connected. The EGR is controlled by the ECU so it only opens when the engine is cruising at partial throttle. The EGR valve stays closed during idle and full throttle. If you eliminate the solenoid you have an open EGR valve anytime there is vacuum in the intake. You car will idle poorly or not at all.

i just looked and relized my 93 does not have an EGR solenoid but instead a disconnected purge control solenoid valve....Does this need to be hooked up for emissions purposes/ to the egr?

Does anyone know any specifics on what can help decrease hydrocarbons?

One time I had a problem with a hp of my car, runed like shit. I check many things, finaly I found two problems, I have a realy low fuel pressure and I have broken EGR selinoid.I bought a new fuel pressure regulator and it fixed my problem. But I did not buy the selinoid, it is kind expensive fo a little peace of a plastic. So now I'm driving without EGR selinoid, idels okay, runs okay, I guess maybe I will buy one day
